Welcome to the forum! Best advice I can give is poke around the trip planning area of the forum. There will be plenty of advice you didn't know you needed. And when you have specific questions - just ask. There's always people around ready to help.

Finalise your park touring plans as soon as possible (which parks on which days) by checking out the park hours calendars.
Get your dining reservations made as soon as possible.
Book your Fast Passes at 60 days for the length of your trip (or at 30 days if you're staying off property.
Have a blast, take it easy and don't try and do too much too soon

Oh absolutely! Try eliminating choices you know you don't want and move on from there. Price and location are two easy places to start! Then you can use things like recently completed refurbishments (or resorts undergoing refurb) to help eliminate things further. And there are plenty of threads already with the pros and cons of different resorts. It can definitely be overwhelming!
