Update on DTD, the purse store Petals is gone and is to be replaced with a new store, Club Libby Lu.
Club Libby Lu offers makeovers to young girls of ages 6 and up.
There are 5 choices of makeovers: princess makeover, pop princess makeover, rocker makeover, cheerleader makeover and glamour girl makeover. You can choose one of these complete makeovers for $20. Also, you can choose a mommy and me makeover from any of the choices mentioned above.

Is it just me or is giving a girl under the age of 16 a makeover wrong?
Definately sort of scary! While it's a fun thing to do and kids have been playing pretend and dress up until the end of time - I'm always a little afraid of how "image concious" they are so young!

Honestly though, if I were a little squirt, I'd beg for a "mommy and me" make over!

I have seen these parties and they have scared me to tears. What are they doing to these little girls?????

I imagine some of them coming out looking like Britney Spears and on a 6 year old, not right.

Same here. I didn't start thinking about makeup until the age of 15 and for me it was just a bit of mascara and lip gloss. I now see little girls wearing more makeup than I do or wear more provacative clothes. Scary!

Yup. I was in theater all through high school, so make up was a way of life for me! But at the same time, my mom taught me how to wear it, so I guess I started at 13. But then again, it's Southern California! I think we are the most image concious area anyway! LOL

I never did a "make over". Being me was just fine!

I've tried a makeover once for my prom. I told the girl to make me look as natural as possible, but she didn't listen to me and I walked out looking like a clown. I guess she thought purple eyeshadow and red-red lipstick look good together  . I paid that money for what, for me to take it off afterwards?

Living in So. Cal as well I prefer a little makeup. I go to the beach a lot and the mountains, makeup isn't really needed there. I agree that we are the most image concious area around. I feel like we now have to compete with the guys on who looks prettier.

May I just say,

GAG

There's a Libby Lu in the mall here (right next to the Disney store, now that I think about it)

The issue of sexualizing children aside, it disturbs me that this might be a trend towards making DTD the same as the shopping mall 5 miles from my house.

That is far more scary to me. I want WDW to be different from my everyday life. (and yes, I hate the fact that Mc Donald's is in the parks)

Sadly, I agree. We are far too image conscious here. Every girl somehow needs to be on a diet or else they some how won't fit in. It's irritating, really.

I know this is random, but I saw a topic on CLL and I had to reply.

Their make-overs aren't really all that horrible. For make up it's sparkles, eyeshadow and glitter lip-gloss.. the girls get to choose their color of sparkles eyeshadow, everything. So I guess it's not really forcing them to grow up to fast or look like a 'Britney Spears' anyway, the majority of the girls like Hilary Duff.. or want to be like her they really don't even care about Britney. And on another fact, the parents are usually worse then the girls are. They're usually the ones forcing the 'club counselors' as they call themselves (the employees) to put on more eyeshadow or sparkles.

I must admit I am scared of the "Mommy can we get a Mommy and me make over? Please Please Please." Since littel PhD wants to wear the same color shirt as me every day already. She also wacthes me put my (minimal) make up on daily and copies me. Blush brush on her checks.

Now I must admit I was once a 13 year old (20 years ago) who was dying to wear make up to school, read all the teen magiznes and loved doing make overs at slumber parties. I also must say that once I hit 18 or so my make up went to a very minimal amount, so you do out grow it with out much damage.

I also remember having a tea party with make up and face panting for my now 13 year old niece when she was 7 years old. She is now 13 and doesn't wear make up and is not apearnce obsessed.

But yes as a mother of 2 daugher and a clinical social worker I am concerend about society's presure for aperance for young women today. I am also worried about the lack of GOOD role models today too.
