New season categories for 2010

Unfortunately to increase revenue, it looks like Disney is making up some more "seasons" with regards to booking rooms. In the past there was Value, Regular, Peak, and Holiday. Then they added MLK, President's Day, Easter, Independence Day, and Thanksgiving. For 2010 they've now added, New Year (Jan 1-2 which used to be value), Marathon, and Columbus Day. It looks like management has really taken to the "Celebrate everything" mind set. What's next for next year Halloween, summer and winter solstiec, along with the vernal and autumnal equinoxes, Walt's birthday, Mickey's birthday, etc? I understand that room rates need to increase, but with the economy being what it is, I think they may drive more people away with their nickle and diming people with regards to weekend rates, holidays, etc. And before anyone says it, I know that other hotels do the same, but that doesn't justify it for Disney.

Looks like they are increasing rates at times that have become high demand now.

The holiday's go without saying.

Marathon and Columbus day are both turning into huge runner's weekends.

If demand is higher than supply at these times, they should raise prices. That is simple economics.

The value is apparently there for enough people to warrent at least an experimental foray into increase pricing.

On the surface it might seem dumb but I am sure that naming these seasons with the reason for why they are more expensive might save at least one or two cast members getting asked the question of "Why is marathon season more expensive?". It won't stop it entirely as the "What time is the three o clock parade?" is still asked on a daily basis but it will save a few CM's from going insane.

I understand that, I just wish they didn't add a bunch of new "seasons" that weren't there before just so they could increase their prices. While I'm ranting, I wish that they would still honor a discounted rate for the entire lenght of your stay, even if it is split between two seasons. I guess I'm longing for the time I paid $120/night for a courtyard WL arriving on Christmas and staying until the day after New Years with my AP rate.

We all are. In the mouse's defense Disney simply adopted the same rules that virtually every other hotel chain on the planet has had for ever. On the glass is half full side in the past if you checked in at the end of peak season you paid the elevated rate for your entire trip unless you split your stay up into 2 separate reservations. I put Disney's former room rate policy on the list of "Yet another thing the internet spoiled for everyone."
