New resort theming?

WDW has always been about theming and story. So much that the Tower of Terror was designed to blend in with Morocco in a different park.

Just curious about the two new towers. The Grand Destino Tower is supposed to be inspired by the Walt Disney/Dali film and apparently the Spanish coast/Barcelona, yet it is located in a resort themed to the American Southwest/Northern Mexico.

The other tower, Riviera seems to carry a French Mediterranean theme and although it is it's own resort, it is basically part of Caribbean Beach.

It seems like the two towers could have gone on their own lake to start a new Mediterranean Resort area starting with Spain and France and continuing around the lake. Instead they are plopped into other themed resort properties with minimal cohesiveness.

As they look to be fantastic resorts, I just don't get their chosen locations when Disney is usually concerned with story, theme, sightlines, cohesiveness etc.

I don't think Coronado springs was ever just about the American Southwest. There is Mexican and Spanish influence all over the resort. And I think the Grand Destino fits that.

Riviera is definately a separate resort. Does it take you out of the Polynesian that you can see the Contemporary or Grand Floridian from the Poly beach? Or the Swan from the Beach Club?

I don't think sight lines for the resorts have ever really been a thing. For the theme parks, yes. But the resorts by necessity have always had some blurring.

This way they get the additional tower(s) boost in capacity without having to re-establish basic resort support infrastructure in a new location.

I fear those days are long gone.

They really don't care like they once did.

Its all about the numbers. Get the maximum number of rooms for the hopeful reservations that will come pouring in. People like NEW so theyll be wanting to book no matter how they thematically do or dont fit in.
