From Reuters:
FEW PLACES FOR NEW PARKS

Iger also said Disney did not see many more places to build major traditional theme parks around the world beside the one under construction in Hong Kong and a park in Shanghai that Disney is actively considering.

"But we are looking at other concepts," he said, referring to the success of the Disney cruise line pointing to "small parks, weekend concepts" as other possible projects.

Weekend Parks?!?

how do you get any smaller than the Walt Disney Studios Paris? One ride, a McDonalds, and an outhouse?

Or Hong Kong DL?
And you know the one ride will be a Dumbo or Teacup ride.

Maybe they mean something like the old Mineral King concept or the Nature Parks that they are supposed to build at the DLParis resort.
I like the Mineral King idea, but I'm sure it won't be as grand as Walt planned it.

Disney's America was designed to be a compliment to the other historial things in the area, not a replacement or a resort destination.

While I liked the idea of America, I think Disney has expanded enough at this point. When does enough become too much? The less kids you have, the easier they are to take care of.

But like someone mentioned over in Company Discussion Forum...Weekend parks will just take the business from the big resort areas...I think they're right...so maybe they should forget that concept....the more parks they have around the world, the less unique the experience becomes....just some thoughts....

the resorts, I have no problem with...like the one in Vero Beach or the Hilton Head Island Resort...I would love to see Disney Resorts open up in different places, like Niagara Falls or NYC, etc.

I agree, resorts are ok. Plus it's more money for DVC.
I think it would be silly to set up mini-parks, but I thought the DisneyQuest idea a few years ago was pretty good.

I do not think building parks around the country is a good idea. When people go to a Disney theme park, they have certain expectations (although said expectations are getting lower daily) and the parks that Disney currently has would not financially work in many other domestic markets. Also, Disney would have a harder time competing with the already established regional parks like Cedar Point and Great America.

I do think Disney could expand their resorts around the country, and be very successful. Imagine a hotel in the midwest, with golf, tennis, outdoor recreation, a campground, an indoor/outdoor water play area (or mini-waterpark for guests only) convention facilities.... Something like that would work well.
