Some big news regarding the site for the 3rd park at DLR. This has been buzzing around many boards now.

Disney plans to build a massive parking lot on the field that it originally bought for a possible third Anaheim theme park.
That means that a new park likely would be at least six to 10 years away when the lot is no longer needed.
Disney wants to add 2,570 new parking spots for guests to the Harbor Boulevard site, eating up the majority of the remaining open space on a former strawberry field that the company bought about 11 years ago in anticipation of building a third theme park.

This is a very great quote.
“The presence of a temporary parking lot at this location in no way enhances or discounts the potential of future investment at this location,” Brown said. ”We’ll grow business when and where it makes sense to do so. But our focus at this time is on the expansion of Disney’s California Adventure.”

Anaheim backs Disney parking expansion
August 17th, 2009, 8:26 pm · 1 Comment · posted by Jim Radcliffe

The Anaheim Planning Commission today approved Disney’s plan for a new, temporary parking lot.

The vote was 6-0, with one commissioner absent.

The site, at 1946 S. Harbor Blvd., was purchased by Disney 11 years ago for a possible third theme park. The 53-acre property is currently equipped with 1,701 parking spaces on 12 acres. The new parking lot would transform 23 additional acres into 2,570 spaces.

Because Disney recently closed the 2,226-space Timon parking lot, new parking spaces are needed during the $1-billion expansion of Disney’s California Adventure.

There are 22 days to appeal the commission’s decision to the City Council before it goes into effect, said Ruth Ruiz, spokeswoman for the city of Anaheim.

Disney could use the extra parking spaces for at least six years.

The city wants to reserve space on the 53-acre property for a fixed-guideway system, which is like a monorail, between a planned transportation hub and the tourist area.

If the guideway isn’t ready after six years, Disney could keep the temporary parking lot for an additional four years.

“This approval will help us manage the transportation needs of our guests as we continue to grow and invest in Anaheim,” said Disney spokesman John Nicoletti.

Update- Toy Story Lot.

http://micechat.com/forums/disneyland-resort/133538-new-toy-story-parking-lot-opens-19th.html

To sum up the thread above-
-Toy Story lot opens Friday March 19
-"Autopia" made this nifty map of the DLR parking lots-
http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=U...25062403968207.000466c004e0f1eec755f&t=h&z=15
-Guests may purchase theme park tickets at the lot(more details when I find them)

Some more info resort parking-
-The site was home to Strawberry fields which is rumored to be DLR's 3rd park.
-3 existing lots on this plot of land, Buzz Lightyear, Pongo Lots, and Cast Member parking
-Rumor says another 10,000 plus parking structure(I believe Mickey and Friends holds 10,000+) will eventually be built on the Pumba lot(Pumba is the parking lot north of the Anaheim Garden Walk).

Also dont forget this is temporary.

IMO you kind of think this lot would have opened prior to Carsland starting construction...

This note from Al Lutz went up tonight on the Miceage front page....

Editor's Note: Sick of the Disneyland parking nightmare? 3,600 extra spaces open up on Friday in the new Toy Story lot, with over two dozen city buses assigned to shuttle you roundtrip. The trick is getting you to park way down there, and if you have an AP then Disney has plans to push, prod, and plead with you to park there on Sundays. - Al Lutz

City buses?

The new lot opened today. The buses are actually all repainted as Toy Story buses, and Disney is paying to have a few dozen recently laid off OCTA bus drivers rehired for this new route. It turns out this is a very cool thing for both Disney and the local community, and the laid off bus drivers are thrilled with their new jobs shuttling tourists instead of commuters.

Here's the video from the opening ceremony this morning... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V2sPGoWI8ok&feature=player_embedded

Interesting. I can't see myself parking that far away. I really cannot wait for the new garage at the Pumba lot. THAT will be convenient (assuming they can figure out a way to get traffic to flow smoothly out to I-5 at the end of the night).

I was forced to park in Toy Story today. Came to the resort at 4:00 and went to the parking structure like I usually do, and was denied. Getting to the new lot was a pain. Waaaay to much traffic. And don't get me started on the bus service. The line was miles long and wasn't moving an inch. We didn't bother and walked to the resort. Leaving at 8ish wasn't bad at all. Minimal wait to get on, then a not fast enough but not too long ride back to the lot.

I'm not a fan. I wasn't a fan of the structure, and had to park at Buzz one other time before today and it's always a pain. I miss Timon. :( I know it's being made into bigger and better things, but it was so close and so very easy to get in and out of....

Also, it was crazy packed today. I miss the days where my friends and I would go on Friday nights and enjoy a peaceful park. They seriously need to reduce the number of APs given out. Without taking away mine, of course. ;)
