New parking, iPads at DCA, and Rascal Flatts

We all know parking is going to be a complete NIGHTMARE this summer at DLR. According to Al Lutz, TDA has solved this problem by opening the cast member parking lot on Katella for its guests. They will be bussed over, and it's only about a 3-5 minute ride. Cast members who usually park there will now have to park either at the Honda Center or Angel Stadium, and be bussed over. I feel so bad for them! Let's see how crazy things get this summer!

Apparently the guest relations department just ordered a whole bunch of new iPads for DCA, and they will now be used for useful information like attraction wait times and even making reservations for Carthay or World of Color. Sweet!

Lastly, Al Lutz reported Rascal Flatts will be at DCA on June 13th, performing "Life is a Highway" for the media day. Man I wish I could be there! I love Rascal Flatts and their version of that song but I know a video of it will be up on youtube probably the next day:lol:

I swear, each day I become more and more excited. I don't know how much more angst I can take!

I'm still surprised that after all the additions over the years and the increase of cars that the 2nd parking structure never got built.

It would have been nice to have that extra parking structure now, but I kinda sorta think I understand why they waited. I know the parking situation is dicey right now, but they've helped with adding the Toy Story lot, and Al made it sound like this worst-case parking situation is only for a few weekend days in the summer. The whole DCA redo is/was a HUGE wild card when they decided to not have that parking structure built. Why build a six story parking garage if it turns out you really needed a nine story parking garage ? The resort is at a crossroads right now: if the DCA relaunch really does draw people in and get them to spend money, then I think the transportation planning will include a third park in the 10-20 year range. When/if the third park does get built, it will probably include a big rethink of the resort transportation. The land for the third park is not directly connected like DCA and Disneyland are; there will likely be some kind of peoplemover or monorail to get people from park to park and if you're going to make a big capital parking investment on the East side of the resort, it needs to mesh with idea.

I do feel bad for the CM's, though. So many things that Disneyland seems to do right lately, and they just offer them a coupon for inedible food for this inconvenience? If your employer requires you to park off-site and then wait for company transportation to get to your job site, then aren't you on-duty when you arrive at the bus stop at the Honda Center or Angel Stadium? Just pay the CM's for their time if they're really going to be waiting so long for a bus to get to work!

Oh good points Cosmic! I guess I was thinking pre Toy Story Lot but after the Timon lot closed that's when parking really became bad. Speaking of the Timon lot I wonder if there is a small tribute for it somewhere in Cars Land????

What you're saying makes a lot of sense in regards to the paarking situation! It wouldn't make sense to build it now if there's a third park in our future.

I wish that part you said about the CM on duty thing was true. My paychecks would have been much larger when I worked at the resort! You aren't considered on duty until you're clocked in into the computer.:(
