Enchantment
A Celebration of 40 Magical Years
Welcome to the Magic Kingdom’s 40th Anniversary Parade, a brand new cavalcade of your favourite characters on stunning floats set to some amazing music. Well, that’s the idea, anyway.
The Music: Beginning with a swirling chord, played by an orchestra and growing into a fanfare, based on the lyrics ‘story book ending, Fairytales coming true’ – from Disney’s Enchanted (This is the ‘main theme’ of the parade). Then it all calms down for the introduction: ‘Ladies and Gentlemen, boys and girls, in 1971, this magical place opened and children of all ages lived their dreams. Today, as part of our 40th anniversary, we ask you to celebrate the place where Memories are born, Dreams live, laughter is echoed and friendship is shared, across seven magical lands. We now invite you to celebrate with us as we proudly present our Enchantment! Thank you. And welcome to the Magic Kingdom!’
The music builds and we hear the ‘welcome, welcome, welcome...’ of the Main Street USA Medley, taking us into...
Opening Window: Main Street USA
Residents of Town Square and Main Street stroll down the parade route, greeting guests and dancing to music comprised of the Welcome Medley, sounds form the Railroad and a nod to MSEP mixed into the music. Each cast member would have a different role to play: sketch artist, news paper seller, etc.
We then see our first float, a steam train similar to that of MSEP, but decorated/painted like those on the railroad. On board, we see Mickey & Minnie, Donald and Goofy, all greeting guests. The parades title would also be incorporated onto the float somehow.
Behind this float, we now begin to change lands as some very well dressed penguins stroll up the parade route...
Fantasy
Behind the penguins, we see Mary Poppins and Bert, who are dressed in their white dress & hat and pin-stripe suite respectively. They are perched on the carousel which features in the movie, surrounded by flowers & shrubs, which leads us onto the second float...
Behind them, a certain Rabbit is very late and is pursued by a rather angry looking Queen and her rather energetic Marching Cards. Behind them, the second float makes its way towards you. Much like the Princess Garden seen in Jubilation, this float is made up of inter-twining bushes and arches, however... these bushes contain red roses, which animate as in Alice in Wonderland! In amongst the greenery, we have some favourite characters who feature in Fantasyland, such as Alice & The Mad Hatter, who take the speaking roles in this section; as well as Merlin, with the sword in the stone; Winnie The Pooh, along with his friends. Small details such as Dumbo flying above the ‘garden’ add to the float. Music would comprise of music from Alice In Wonderland, Winnie The Pooh & Mary Poppins.
Behind the float, animals such as the rhino from the Parade of Dreams wander down the route, leading us nicely into...
Adventure
The animals represent the Jungle Cruise & The Lion King, which takes up the first float, featuring animatronics of Simba, Zazoo & Pumba, as well as Timone on the parade route. These characters are all surrounded by greenery and a waterfall, which merges into a part of the float featuring Pocahontas, who is surrounded by her forest friends. The Sprite from Fantasia, also features cleverly woven into the ‘roof’ of the float. Birds from The Enchanted Tiki Room also feature within the vines...
Behind this float, we see some lost boys in their animal costumes playing along the route, because coming up behind the Lost Boys, are Peter Pan and Wendy on a Pirate ship, which is surrounded by colourful water and greenery. Hook threatens to make Peter walk the plank, and they are sword fighting along the route, as Peter teases his old foe. This also features a certain Captain Sparrow, waving from the back of his ship. Music for this section comprises of music from Peter Pan as Pocahontas, as well as from the Tiki Room & Pirates of the Caribbean.
Behind the float, we see characters in 1700s style costumes, reflecting those seen in POTC and leading nicely into...
New Frontiers
The fourth section of our parade is dedicated to the lands of Frontierland & Liberty Square.
The first float of this section is dedicated to Liberty Square. Here, we see characters in traditional period dress, who lead a float which represents a scaled-down version of the Liberty Bell, which includes its back ‘wheel’ moving real water around which disappears under the float. On-board, characters from The Princess and the Frog wave at the audience. Music includes that from the film, as well as music from Liberty Square.
On the second float, old rail tracks spiral off the front and lead us to old mining cars, which are full of glittering gold, mined on Big Thunder Mountain. Water gushes out of geysers around the float, as well as the towering structure of Splash Mountain. All around is a rocky landscape and cactuses, etc. On the float sit the Country Bears, who are strumming on their banjos. At the back of the float, leaning on a fence are Woody & Jessie from Toy Story. Music includes western style music & ‘Woody’s Roundup’ theme.
And so behind the float, we can see a certain Space Ranger...
Discovery
The next section represents Tomorrowland & we are greeted by Buzz Lightyear, as well as the rocket seen filled with the aliens from Pizza Planet, which has smoke billowing out of the bottom. Behind this, we see the characters from Monsters Inc, who are on a float made up of doors & canisters seen in the film, which move round – reflecting the sequences when the doors move in the film.
Stitch follows the float, along with other space-geared characters. To close this section, a replica of the towering planets sculpture above the Astro-Orbiter glides along the route.
Happily Ever After
We now come to the finale, which is made up of a completely new and redesigned castle float, similar in style to that of Parade of Dreams but with a glass effect similar to the one currently used. The turrets rotate and sculptures such as seen within Peter Pans float are visible within the glass.
The Princesses are standing on the float, with their princes, and ‘props’ such as the rose from Beauty & the Beast and Cinderella’s glass slipper are displayed on-board. The Fairy Godmother stands at the back of the float, creating magic over the entire parade.
On ground level, the Three Fairies, as well as the blue fairy and a whole cavalcade of characters great guests to create a spectacular finale. Music includes the main theme Ever Ever After, as well as that form the princess’ films.
Show Stop
The music for each section builds and finishes in a style similar to Fantillusion and then a re-worked version of Ever Ever After from the film Enchanted plays, in a similar style to Welcome. During the intro, characters onboard the floats invite the audience to share their dreams & towards the end, the lyrics ‘I’ve been dreaming of a true love’s kiss’ are replaced on each float by lyrics that are appropriate, such as ‘Alice in Wonderland, how do you get to Wonderland?’ for Fantasy, etc.
The end
