We could always talk about it regardless of who owns it. With that being said Marvel will never release this movie in the theaters. Better chance is seeing it on Disney +.

New Mutants has appeared on Amazon for pre order. Leading to speculation about a VOD release. In the next few days. Maybe announced at tomorrows earnings call.

Chya... you know wha?

I bet this pre-order thing was scheduled to happen automatically based on one of The New Mutant's previous release dates (which is undetermined now).

Am I the only one who saw the date and thought, "Oh no, what's going to happen in August?"
This is starting to feel like divine intervention. Clearly this film is too glorious to be beheld by mortal eyes.

Depending on the state of the world in two months Mulan could be bumped to this release date and New Mutants will finally be sent to a brief stint on VOD then Disney+/Hulu.

Or August comes around and people are so content deprived that New Mutants turns out to be a slam dunk hit 😂

By the time New Mutants (hopefully) opens in August it will have been a full year since the last Marvel movie (far from home) was in theaters. This could benefit the movie. Even if its not MCU like you say fans will be starved of content by this point and there's no guarantee The falcon & winter soldier releases on Disney+ in August either. New Mutants might end up being a hit because of this.

New Mutants is going to bomb. On top of limited interest outside of the Marvel crew, it won't be able to play at full theatre capacity.

If its one of the only new movies playing at a multiplex why would you think its automatically going to bomb. Even at quarter or half capacity, playing at least 10+ screens in a 20 screen multiplex is enough to pull in a large chunk of cash.

Plus don't discount the "Marvel Crew". They are larger than you think, and honestly just as rabid as some other fandoms out there.

I agree there is little interest in New Mutants but as far as box office goes this year numbers are irrelevant. The studios need to put out movies that will lose money because it will take time for people to return and feel safe. Putting out movies no one cares about won't help. It is up to all the studios to put out movies everyone wants to see. Most won't go but enough will and if things go well the full audience will come back for other movies.

That movie you’re attributing the level of significant for New Mutants should be switched over to Mulan, which comes out a month before NM and a week after Tenet.

New Mutants was going to bomb without the help of Covid-19.

I too think Mulan will move, but to when remains the question. They might not need to reshuffle anything if it moves to early October I guess.

End of August is one of the holdout dump periods - traditionally at least. Like early January I don't think Disney is yet eager to put a tentpole they have good faith into those periods. Which obviously says a lot about New Mutants. Wonder Woman also launches two weeks before, maybe.

New Mutants is 100 percent the perfect streaming candidate, but obviously there are contract issues preventing that.

Snake Eyes, Black Widow and Rambo all being released in October make Mulan a hard fit. I don’t see them pushing Black Widow for Mulan to fill its spot — but it could happen.

If they do decide to push Mulan further, which gets complicated now because of merchandising agreements and other factors, I think it takes New Mutant’s August date.

Hoping for the best and we see the late July release happen. Tenet needs to move first before Disney considers anything.
