new monorail resort

In the 2001 Unofficial Guide to WDW, I read that Disney was palnning on creating a new resort along the monorail (between the Contemporary and the TTC) with a Mediterranean theme. Anyway, its supposed to be WDW's new flagship hotel (better than the GF) I heard about it somewhere else, too about a year ago, but not since then. Anyone got any info?

There were originally supposed to be more hotels on the monorail line.

The Contemporary and Polynesian though were the only ones supposed to open in 1971. And they did, but the others fell through.

A Venetian themed resort was planned up until the 80's and groundbreaking even occured but it later turned in to the GF.

The mediteranian was supposed to be built but never was.

There was an arabian (think aladdin) in the drawing board

And I think there was an Asian themed resort also.

So it was kind of like a tour around the world with the resorts. The contemporary was USA, Polynesian was Hawaii and other islands, and the others would give you a tour of the world. Nice idea, to bad it didn't work.

On our Power Grid boards, we have all the areas listed... Poly, GF, MK, Co, Mediteranean, and TTC... So yes, it was once planned to put a resort there, and our Monorails would be able to stop there and whatnot... However, plans for this Monorail resort were 'derailed' so to speak.

Yeah, just what WDW needs right now, more rooms to fill. I doubt we'll be seeing any new hotels for a while. Other than Pop Century of course, but that was started during better times.

Actually... from what I am to understand, there will be a new DVC resort coming in the next 5 years. And despite recent events, I have been told it's still a go. *shrug* We'll see!

Actually there will be 2 of them. The one at the Disney Institute and the new one at the Eagle Pines golf course. DVC is doing so well that it pays for them to build the resorts because the units will be bought.

Speaking as and old timer, according to time sync with stops along the beams, the plan is complete and only truly works with the five stops, per the models. However there was a mediteranian hotel planned for the area between the TTC & Contemporary but just not a beam stop. It was also felt that it would be close enough to the TTC for the connection. Just my Two cents

I think they should make one on the monorail line, and theme it after B and B. The lobby could have a Huge fireplace, and they could have the east and west wings.

I will agree with you, that a stop between Co and TTC wouldn't really work with our system and hold points... it's possible, at pylon 17... just would be a pain in the posterior. As for close enough... well... so is the Poly... but *Shrug*

That would cost a lot if the food was included like a regular B and B.

The Asian Village was the concept for the Polynesian Village, now Polynesian, Resort

If I'm not mistaken, the only reason we don't have a high-end Mediterranean Resort in WDW today is because of problems with the land (i.e. sinking)

As far as all of these ideas for monorail-properties are concerned, keep in mind that there isn't much available space left on the monorail-line.
- The space between the TTC and Poly, and Poly and GF is booked solid.
- The land between the GF and the MK is used for park maintainence (mainly the canal).
- The land between the MK and the Contemp is mostly for park and monorail maintainence. Although, they could probably build that long-rumored Kingdom Gates hotel to the right of the MK (by the big Photo Shop)
- The land between the Contemp and the TTC isn't structured well enough for a large-scale development such as a resort.

Yes, I always think about this. It was a mistake to build Wilderness Lodge in the only piece of land available for construction around the Seven Seas Lagoon and not including it in the monorail line. It's true you would have to detour to the left from Contemporary to TTC, but that's the easier way to include another resort in the monorail line.

i think the WL would be a much better resort if it had monorail traffic, that is the only reason ihaven't stayed there yet, for the money i would rather stay at the contemporary and be on a monorail in 5 minutes, just my thoughts...
