Well it's nice that you won't have to sit in between someone's legs anymore, but they didn't really need to decrease capacity on the Matterhorn.

Looks like the rumors are true. Disneyland is making new Matterhorn bobsled cars.

They are in the style of WDW's Space Mountain cars (with six passengers in a train as opposed to eight).

They look really cool :):

Yay! No more having to say ____ singles. :sohappy:

They look good. Thanks for the link!

I don't think they are completely decreasing the capacity. I almost always see one person per seat.

True, in one respect, they are decreasing the capacity because in the older cars could carry up to eight people.

But in reality it rarely worked out that way. Many adults would not want to ride in the lap of another, so if you had all adults, the most the train would hold was four people.

Wit the new train setup, you're almost guaranteed a full train every time. So it kind of balances itself out, and possibly might increase ride capacity.

Plus, I think they need to lower the amount of seats to fit all the mechanincs in. If they kept eight seats, the trains would be significantly longer, and that could interfere with ride performance.

Oh, thank goodness for DOSH :hurl:. There is some truth to survival of the fittest. These new vehicles are because the seatbelts didn't have a way to lock. I always kind of liked cuddling with the person I was visiting the park with on Matterhorn.

I'd be willing to bet this increases capactity, as stated above. There is no way two average sized adults could fit in those small seats and actually the seats were a bit too big for one person. I said that this ride would be much better with Space Mountain (MK) style seats when I was there in June, but I didn't expect it would actually come true. This is a very welcome change.

This seems much needed! I've only been to DL once, but I rode Matterhorn several times and the loading seemed a little bit disorganized due to the seating arrangement. Most passengers wanted to sit as singles anyway, so having the "between the legs" option seems like a huge waste. In the 3 times I rode, I was riding with my gf so we were ok at first riding together, but it was somewhat uncomfortable so we decided to sit as singles the 3rd time.

Just to offer a blast from the past, the WDW space mountain cars used to be just like the Matterhorn cars, but were changed to their current state in the early 90's (or late 80's perhaps). This change is overdue for Matterhorn IMO.
