I've always had this idea of a Hercules themed resort. Ever since I saw the movie and learned about Greek mythology in school I thought it would be awesome to have a resort themed after Mount Olympus. Not the actual mountain, of course, but the whole Greek temple look with huge statues and mysterious gardens with wierd creatures all around(fake statues..lol) Anyone have any thoughts on this? If I became an imagineer this would be my first project :D

interesting idea. . .

Well I think this is an interesting idea but what more does this resort have to offer the guests besides a theme? I feel this idea would be great if it where based just on the traditional ancient greece/mythology and not so much based on the film. Is their any particular temples from greece that would be inspiration, would cast members be dressed in full costume from that period? I think that if you possibly develope a story for this concept it could better tell your idea. Most resorts are either themed mild i.e. ploy, grand, contemp, fort, etc. then you have the wild kitsch hotels like pop, all-stars, etc. I think this concept would have to fall somewhere in between the two. I think you have a nice starter but let's hear more. What is the demographic of this resort? I think it will be hard to pull off this resort and not come of being cheesy, but hey look at cesars palace in vegas!

I actually think Greek could be a very easy theme. I would pull away from Hercules a bit, though, and use that as an accent for a kids area. Some ideas I might put forth:

1. Really work on a Roman spa. Make this the highlight of the resort. Have it be part indoor-part outdoor.

2. Create the resort to look like the courtyard-centered homes of Ancient Greece (somewhat like the manor homes layout of Magnolia Bend but connected to a central courtyard).

3. Work with the restaurants. Maybe have a vineyard, a symposium, etc.

4. Would you meet the gods? at a dinner show? some other way?

Just some things to think about.

it was just a thought, but you all added great details to it. yea, i do agree that the hercules part should be limited to a play area, but it's from greek mythology that i got my idea, that's why i mentioned it. the restaurant and spa ideas are really cool. this would definitely be a deluxe/dvc resort..lol

from wikipedia:

Disney's Mediterranean Resort. Was a proposed Disney Deluxe resort to be located at Walt Disney World in Lake Buena Vista, Florida that originally would have began operation in the late 1990s. It was going to be themed after a small Greek island and be located on Seven Seas Lagoon. Due to very swampy and poor ground samples, the resort was never able to be built. The resort was to be a 5 star resort rivaling Disney's Grand Floridian Resort.

The resort would have been located between the Transportation and Ticket Center and Disney's Contemporary Resort near the water bridge.

Demographics?

Hmmm... interesting. I wasn't sure about it at first, but the more I thought about it, the more interesting it became to me. I think I might start my own thread about my own resort idea!

Anyway, I think you need to decide on which demographic you want to target. If it's families with kids, go over-the-top with statues that come alive (sing, talk, squirt water, etc). If it's not for families, make it a luxerious get-away with spas and such without as much interactivity, but heavy on the gardens and such.

I prefer over-the-top. I like heavily themed resorts. They're almost attractions unto themselves. Theme it heavily with Greek mythology.
