The new construction beside MK is a new fire station.

Was the old one so bad?

What's going to go in the old one's place?

Is this all old news? If so, sorry.

p.s. isn't it horribly depressing the new satellite pics in google don't show 20K anymore?

The thing about moving the fire station, isn't the old one right next to the Fireworks launch area? (the next lot to the left of it) Seems to be a convenient location for it in case of an accident. But maybe that's the problem! After all if said accident goes off and sets fire to the trees between the fireworks launchers and the fire station... :lookaroun

True, though the new station is closer to the fireworks storage bunkers...
My guess is that they've out-grown the old firehouse and need more than a refurb or expansion can provide.

So, there is one in downtown disney, one just behind Epcot, and one by MK...is there one near AK?

Yes there is a fire station by AK. It is located behind the McDonald's.

The new fire station is replacing the original fire station and the old building is rumored to be used as a maintenance shop for all the fire equipment.

The new station is bigger and a better configuration to allow RCFD to respond when needed. The old station has problems with traffic going in and out of the Park 2 Gate.

Last summer it seemed that every time we were in tomorrowland all you could hear was the Q2 (Firetruck Siren) as the trucks went past. Mabey with the increase of calls and the number of times a day that they respond in that direction they decided to relocate the station to somewere that they wouldnt impact the park as much. The road to the west of the park is far enough away that the trucks wouldnt be seen or heard and it still gives access to the shops behind the MK as well as decreasing response times to resort areas such as Poly. New standards make it harder to put a firestation in a small area and trucks today are much larger than they were when that station was built.

I've been passing that for a few days and wondering what it is. Thanks Jose!

The old one is not a great location, although close to MK, to get through security they have to pull out in the street and turn in anyhow, this eliminates the U-turn. Perhaps an emergency signal will be built to service the new one?

Well, ever since they removed the security booth by Westclock, anyone - and i mean ANYONE - can (and does, i was one of them) cut behind MK to access 535. Traffic back there is a mess. There are plenty of people who really didnt need to be driving back.

I really haven't experienced any traffic that was too bad back there...Whats really bad is when they do perimeter fireworks, like now during Not So Scary, and the only way out of Westclock is 535...Its O So Scary trying to get out of there.
