Great to see these menu item changes. Just my opinion but all the dining at SSR needs to be revamped. I ate at Turf Club a few months ago and didn’t enjoy the food at all. The restaurant ambiance itself was fine but food was no good. I also find it weird Artists Palette is combined with the gift shop. I don’t know it’s just a weird area in my opinion. I’m sure there are guests who love SSR the way it is.

Nothing that shouts to me that this should be a must try. Changes are good only if theres first a definite step up in quality and secondly it brings more people in by appealing to them first visually, then third by experiencing it. IMHO this fails on the first important two counts.

So is it just me, or does the food in these pictures look terrible?
What is so terrible about it? It is counter service food, not fine dining. I don't like a couple of the options but that is personal preference, not because it looks bad. I don't know why they would call that turkey and pimento cheese a BLT.

I question that whole gift shop / quick service combo. Not sure why they went that route.

I used to enjoy Turf Club. I would not go out of my way to eat there, but since SSR is my home resort it is an easy stop, and was a solid performed. But I agree, recently it has started to drift down (and in my opinion so has OIivia's, which is its' sister restaurant for whatever that means). They have done some menu changes, but not really anything earth shattering.

The question is, on the new Artist Pallett menu, can I get a poached egg on the avocado toast? If not, what's the point?

Olivia's still has a good experience imo. I just think ever since covid the menu hasn't been as good. But that is a lot of restaurants on property.

Agree. Post covid menus are sparse and spensive.

We used to enjoy Rose and Crown but their menu is so pared down and the food is not worth the price.

Yeah it’s wild. I travel a lot and not just to Disney. But it seems like Disney is the only place still living in 2021 or at least wishing it was still 2021. It drives me crazy to go to a Disney restaurant that used to have 15+ entrees (ok maybe not 15 but it’s been so long I can’t remember) and now only have maybe 6? It’s unfortunate to see.

Got my hopes up over the beef on weck. Its actually brisket on brioche. Standard brisket on a brioche hamburger bun. Hopefully the other new items are better.

"served with au jus"

It is also served "With with juice"

Just a pet peeve of mine. I have noticed that WDW has changed a number of menus that used to list "jus", such as.

Prime Rib
Potato puree, braised carrot, jus

To

Prime Rib
Potato puree, braised carrot, au jus

The au is already implied in the line listing what comes with the main dish. The Prime Rib comes WITH Potato, Carrot, and juice. But they feel the need to say it comes with potato, carrot, and with juice.

And yeah, I have had beef on weck, that is not beef on weck. Beef on weck is also a Buffalo / Rochester thing. Miles away from Saratoga Springs, which is what, you know, SSR is supposed to be. Might as well throw a NYC dirty water dog on the menu while they are at it.

Smaller menus are a lot cheaper and easier to manage.

Less kitchen staff, less kitchen space, less food waste.

Smaller menus CAN mean better quality at times. It is hard to focus on quality when you have 50 items on your menu. A focused menu is one thing though, a menu with one chicken, one beef, one fish, and one vegetarian just says cost cutting.

There is a new restaurant near me that we waited a LONG time for it to open. Ate there once, and never went back. All you had to do was look at the menu and you realized that everything that was on there was designed around long term storage and minimizing cost.

Im guessing that Disney will start making their menus more robust again to try to build the magic back now that attendance is soft.

Or they will keep menus dumbed down to make offering “free” dining less of an impact on profit margin when they ramp up those incentives to strengthen bookings.

It is like saying chai tea. Chai means tea. Or queso cheese. LOL

So, I remember the contemporary arcade where Steakhouse 71 is now, the food court there was terrible. This is not an observation of one trip, it was years of trips. Why is everything that is new so hard for people to accept? Is it because you are old now? I am old now too with aches and pains (45) but I am interested in giving the new menu a chance.

As someone who has points at Saratoga, I appreciate the new renovations from the old and hope I get the same out of BLT!

Oh I know, I'm from Buffalo. And I'm insane enough to ALWAYS believe that THIS time is going to be the time somewhere outside of Buffalo gets it right 😂 I don't mind Buffalonian food, or the attempt anyway, being on the menu at Saratoga. Lots of people think Buffalo is part of Canada, and/or that the only part of New York of value is the city. Upstate and Western NY solidarity!

the Fiesta Fun Center! I loved that as a kid. and yeah, the snack bar was pretty dismal....it was a different time though. And there were plenty of other food options back then on the concourse level...
It was a cool space...a very large arcade with a movie theater at the back... now their arcade is just a space off the concourse level...not special...just a room with machines.
I am glad that the Saratoga Springs quick-serve and shop area is getting a little love. Last time I was there they still had the old 90s modern colored Lucite chandeliers left over from the Disney Institute days...
