The Unofficial Guide 2008 mentions the possibilities of Disney re-introducing the boat ride around Discovery Island with a character breakfast or lunch on board. Also talk of a new evening parade at AK with lanterns which is being developed by Steve Davison (Wishes creator).

Has anybody heard anything about either of these ?

Those items were "rumors" included under Jim Hill's comments in the Unofficial Guide. While entertaining, the general feeling here is that his predictions should be taken with a grain of salt, if not a salt mine. Not to be nasty, but Jeanne Dixon was probably more accurate.

I've heard of both. I can't see why the breakfast / luch boat ride wouldn't happen - seems like a great idea that is bound to get lots of business but I suppose there might be some concern over what happens when the boat breaks!

I thought the AK parade was the Rivers of Light idea. I would love to see such a thing but (and I might have got the wrong end of the stick) I'm not sure a parade on the river would work because of the lack of good viewing spaces due to the foliage around all the paths.

Both rumors include issues about capacity, which is a big hindrance to many ideas. Both would be nice, but (especially the parade idea) improbable due to capacity.

And if they were gonna serve food in a river boat, theyd need to fix up the river.

capacity problems for a parade? That's a new one...care to elaborate? By the way, Rivers of Light was never intended to be a parade on the water. It was a traditional parade on the streets that would have many lanterns giving the impression of a "river" of light.

The boat ride meal seems improbable for several reasons. How do you convince guests to pay more for a buffet (it would undoubtedly cost more just because it's novel) when the food would necessarily be simply warmed up after being prepared a good amount of time earlier (no way they could fit a kitchen on the boats). Then how do you find room for tables seating more than a hand full of guests along with room for the waiters and food preparation along with the characters? Doesn't seem feasible to me.

The rivers of light parade was not actually going to on on the river...but in the streets of DAK. And it would be in the style of Spectromagic. "Flowing lights" like a river I believe there was also going to be mainly lanterns and such. Do a search you'll find many threads on this and on other sites. But rumor has it, its on pause because the road pathways are too small for the ideas that they had...so it maybe scaled down. but again its just a rumor!

EDIT: Oh DARN YOU BEAT ME! haha..needs to type faster haha!

When the paths are narrow and modifications/changes would need to be made to accomodate the parade/crowds, couldn't you could call it capacity problems?

I would certainly call it capacity problems. Just like the current parade has capacity problems.

I've heard both rumored. The boat thing only makes sense if they are planning on making it actually go somewhere, because that is why it closed in the first place. I can't see having a meal onboard, just not enough room.

The parade I can see, but they need another major nighttime attraction to keep people in the park later first.

An waterbound restaurant sounds like a cool idea, but I would implement it on Seven Seas Lagoon or Bay Lake in a big pirate ship (or other large vessel), allowing maximum seating and kitchens.

But how deep is the lake? On most tall ships, there's more hull below water than what you see above water. You'd probably need at least 30' deep waters for a heavy load carrying "pirate ship".

From what I remember both ideas were shelved. I am not sure why the boat breakfast was shelved but in the case of the River of Light parade there were several issues involving the parade floats physically fitting on the parade route. From what I heard a fairly substantial amount of foliage was going to have to be removed and it would have destroyed the look of the park.

Indeed, according to Wikipedia, Seven Seas Lagoon reaches a depth of 14ft and Bay Lake 12ft. A giant floating barge with one level could be an alternate idea.

I seem to remember hearing that the designers were going back and reconfiguring the floats so they would be smaller and able to fit. Does anyone else remember this? Maybe its just wishful thinking on my part.

A better question is how did the park imagineers screw up(The great Joe Rhode?) and make all the walkways too narrow when they had all kind of room to work with? Not only do you have parade issues, you have crowd congestion issues going to and fro.
