So, having seen the marvelous "Saving Mr. Banks", and after watching "Mary Poppins" at home, I got an idea for a new area for DHS - "Cherry Tree Lane".
I'm not as good at WDW geography as some folks here, but I'm thinking that part of the Streets of America could be put to use for it, as well as the Muppet Theater. That could be replaced by Admiral Boom's house, complete with ship and cannon on top of it. Perhaps Admiral Boom's could be an eatery, and its cannon could go off to mark the time - not every hour, of course, that would be a bit much, but perhaps 3 times a day - to mark breakfast, lunch and dinner. And perhaps Boom's could also be a dark ride through Mary Poppin's London, or a 3D show like Mickey's Philharmagic. The rest of Cherry Tree Lane could be the usual amalgam of gift shops and maybe a teahouse/coffeehouse (perhaps named "A Spoonful of Sugar"). Pearlies (the "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious" singers) could be on hand to entertain, and there would of course be meet-and-greets with Bert and Mary.
It's high time "Mary Poppins" was given its due in the parks. It's criminal that non-Disney stuff like Indiana Jones and Star Wars get their own attractions (and neither of those got anything like the awards "Poppins" did) and yet "our Mary" is neglected. JMHO.
