New animation studio

This may have already been posted, I apologize if it has. Let me say that this is a rumor. My best friend has a home in Celebration and was just there last week. This is what she was told.

Roy Disney has collaborated with Steven Spielberg and purchased property on World Drive for the purpose of creating an art animation studio. Yes it sounds crazy, but she swears it to be true. She's a very mature person and not the gossiping type. Apparently he is doing this out of outrage at the closing of the animation studios in CA and MGM. It sounds like it will be fairly large and is anticipated to bring more residents and business into Celebration. My friend is looking for a larger home in Celebration and that is where this came into the discussion. It could drive the prices up even more.

Wouldn't it be neat if this goes through?

While there may be some truth to it, the studio will not be on World Drive. World Drive is entirely contained within Disney property, and there is no way Disney would have sold land on World Drive to anyone let alone Roy Disney.

I'm not so sure that this would be so "neat" anyway. I would like to see Disney revitalize their animation business and a new studio would just be another competitor and that might make it harder for Disney if they did decide to gear things back up again.

Besides, starting a new studio like that would certainly have quite a bit of risk. They would need to rely solely on original talent. At least if Disney went back into it, they could create stories for their existing characters. A new studio would need to create all new characters in addition to the new stories. ...Unless they did one heck of a job in creating liscensing agreements to animate other companies' characters...

I definately hope its true! Two geniuses in movie making working together to re-invent traditional animation instead of using CGI.

Exactly! I really miss good animated movies. Disney used to be the end all and be all of animation but over the last 10 years it's been lacking IMO.

while it does sound good, this is a retaliation against disney, which is not good. you might as well say that universal studios is building a huge animation studio...
i have mixed feelings.

Well, if Roy's in charge of this, it could be good. You see, accourding to Disney War, Roy is trying to find all ways possible to get back to buisness in the Walt Disney Company. If he gets his way, he could bring the whole animation studio with him, and traditional animation will be back in buisness at Disney!

Why would Spielberg undercut the animation studio he already is a partner in with another? Remember the "S" in DreamWorks SKG is "Spielberg"!

Exactly what I was going to say! Why would Spielberg want to create a competitior for his own company?
