It's Time For Disney To Bring Back Hand Drawn Animation

Okay, after much thought! I need to rephrase. What I meant to say is Disney is bringing back hand drawn animation. However, it will not be like the 90's renaissance. It's going to be more like a hybrid style like Paperman, Feast, Spiderverse, Klaus, and of course The Wild Robot. Wish is a good try, but not quite. In fact, (you don't have to believe this, but) I've heard rumors that WDAS is trying think a way to make hand drawn animation different, even if it includes CGI animation too. Hand drawn animation is not dead. It's evolving! We'll see what the future holds. In the meantime, we'll have to do deal with sequels and Hexed.

Disney may do another hand drawn animation feature/short in the future or it may not and may continue to do other animation styles. We just have to wait and see. But no matter what happens we shouldn't get upset if it doesn't turn out how we wanted it. :)

Since people are being negative about it, then never mind!
Honestly, not trying to be mean here.. but, it’s pretty clear to me you’re very much more of an optimist and tend to take more negative opinions & criticism pretty hard, maybe even a bit personally.. and truth be told, this specific forum isn’t exactly the place to find to find a ton of praise & mostly positivity, especially during this Disney “Dark Age” we’re dealing with atm. (This isn’t the first time this has happened at Disney truth be told.) This is def the more critical forum compared to others. Truthfully, for your own mental health, I’d suggest you join some other forums or even some Disney fan groups on Facebook, Deviantart, etc. that stay on the positive side. That way, your feelings won’t get as easily hurt. Though, truth be told.. the healthiest thing to do in situation like these, is to take criticism towards Disney as just that, criticism towards current Disney management decisions, not towards you or your opinions. Not towards the legacy and what we genuinely love about Disney. That and for your best emotional wellbeing, it’s best not to get too attached to any company or even what others might be thinking of their decisions rn. We can like their creative talent and their works, along with their legacy, but at the end of the day the company suites & ultimate decision makers are their own entities. Disney’s works & the head honchos running the company are not one and the same. You also can’t expect nor force everyone to feel the same way you do about everything. Everyone’s their own person and thus, you gotta just stick to how you feel about something, think of it as such (your own feelings), and not let others’ feelings get the better of you. It’s their thoughts, not your’s, and ultimately shouldn’t effect the way ‘you’ feel about things. Also try to respect others’ thoughts & feelings here and realize, they’re gonna have em and you can’t always convince others to change their feelings, regardless of how passionate you are. Just as I don’t expect to always be able to get you to agree with me about everything and I respect that. That’s just part of being human. Hope this helps.

I guess so. But I wouldn’t trust Deviantart! I mean, a lot’ve people keep saying hand drawn is dead is because of that ridiculous nuisance that hated cgi that I will not name. But I suppose you maybe right. Maybe I should see my doctor. I hope I’m not deluded.☹️But thanks for your feedback.🙂

Okay, this may not be necessary, but I found this on BoardwalkTimes.com:
Could the current success of Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle, the potential successes of next year’s The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender and 2027’s The Simpsons Movie sequel, and the success of next year’s grand re-opening of The Magic of Disney Animation at Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World, be crucial in convincing and persuading Disney to go back to go back to making fully 2D/hand-drawn animated films from Walt Disney Animation Studios for movie theaters again? If so, what could be that film to be so successful to have more of them made if it can bring people back to theaters?

I think the future of 2D/hand-drawn will be within hybrid projects at Walt Disney Animation Studios. Maybe at the most there will be specials. I also don’t really know if there is a film they could do in 2D right now that would bring people back to theaters.

I think that maybe a realistic answer.🙂

For sure, I’m a big Paperman fan myself, always was my hope they’d do more with the “Meander” method. That and just straight up traditional hand drawn animation I feel is on the rise too. Just look at Once Upon a Studio, Mickey in a Minute, Goofy in How to Stay at Home, and Donald in D.I.Y. Duck. Not to mention all the little commercials, ads and things they’ve done featuring various beloved characters. All great recent examples of the traditional method being revitalized. 😁

As in previous discussions we've had about this, in my opinion it all comes down to money. If Disney sees there is enough of an audience willing to pay for such content they will create it. If they aren't creating its because they don't see enough audience for it to make it worth spending the money.

So we'll see if some of the upcoming projects after Hoppers, Hexed, and Frozen 3 move in this direction or not.

I wish Disney would go back to some hand drawn films again, but doubt that will ever happen.
Many years ago, my husband and I got to do the tour of the animation studio in animation courtyard. We could walk around the whole huge "room" and watch the animators drawing. The movie they were drawing was The Lion King, so it was quite a while ago. I'm just glad we got to see how it was done while it was still being used. I do feel that some type of hand drawn animation would be a good thing. I don't have a horse in this race, lol, just an opinion and a great memory:)
