what do you think disney thinks about that, I mean, it's gotta be a double sided coin for them, as power and money hungry as the company is, they must be dissappointed that Walt Disney Feature animation won't be holding the top spot anymore, won't they?

Plus, you know the old cliché “Records are made to be…”

All in all, (financial rewards aside) I think Disney would be happier that it was a Pixar movie that they were in some way a part of that broke the record over something by say – oh I don’t know – Dreamworks…. Not that I think anyone at Disney was actually worried about Sinbad or anything. ;)

I can see them being happy and sad at the same time. Nemo wasn't animated by Disney, but instead Pixar. However, Disney is associated with the creative process and stories (although I believe this does weigh more heavily on Pixar's side). Thus, Nemo would be the number 1 animated film ever, but not really from Disney. Still, Disney would get the credit for the number 1 animated film since they released it.

I personally hope Nemo continues to skyrocket so as to prevent Shrek 2 from ever becoming the number 1 animated movie (the success of this movie is undeniable with the following from Shrek, but it will really depend on the quality of the film whether it can surpass or even match the original Shrek's total).

However, should Nemo pass The Lion King, TLK will still have the title as the best TRADITIONAL animated film, something I don't see it losing for a VERY long time. Also, TLK's total now stands at 327.5 since its release on IMAX screens, so assuming re-releases are counted to totals, it means Nemo will need to make 24 million more, not 13 to surpass it. Also, when adjusted for inflation rates, TLK's box office take would be 452.5 million if it was released this year and not in 1994. Thus, TLK was still a far more successful film.

Did you do the inflation adjusted calculations yourself or did you find it somewhere? It would be cool to compare all the big movies from the past to today.

The following site is great for information regarding movies and their takes at the box office:

www.boxofficemojo.com

From this site, I was able to find the adjusted domestic gross at http://www.boxofficemojo.com/alltime/adjusted/

Enjoy :)

I sure hope Brother Bear does in fact give The Lion King a run for its money. Something big needs to happen for traditional animation or it may be lost (at least for the current time). In fact, Katzenburg at Dreamworks was quoted today in papers as saying 2D animation is dead after his Sinbad was even more of a flop than Treasure Planet. He went on to say that his studio will now only release CGI animated movies. I hope Brother Bear shows him he is wrong and 2D animation is very much alive.

Not to mention, Disney has also decided to do a number of its upcoming movies in CGI and not traditional. Lets hope Brother Bear shows the industry that 2D animated movies work just as well as CGI when done right. Heck, it was just last summer Lilo and Stitch did so well! How easy people forget.
