Neighbor Help

So my next door neighbors need help. Disney help. They want to surprise the kids, who love Disney, with a trip next year in Nov before Turkey Day. They have been to Disney before but that was 30 years ago.

They have 14 people going, possible of 15. Dunno the exact dates.

Can you rent a Grand Villa if you are not a member because the Disney site only has 1 and 2 bedroom villas? Could they rent DVC points and because I assume renting would be cheaper than paying for the hotel? Would a non DVC hotel be better?

Hotels they mentioned was Bay Lake, Animal Kingdom and Old Key West for DVC. We mentioned Old Key West because it's cheaper. They didn't mention non DVC hotels.

Yes, they can't rent points. David's DVC rentals and DVCRentalStore are excellent for this.
They would need to reserve it early.
I still think that trying to share space with that many people will be too much. They will probably be better getting multiple rooms with connecting doors and it will still probably be cheaper. They may even be able to get free dining if they opt for multiple rooms.

Be aware that the maximum occupancy of a Grand Villa is 12. So even if you got a Grand Villa you'd still have to rent an addition unit of some sort.

A 2-bedroom unit will allow 8 or 9 people. If you book at OKW or a Dedicated 2-Bedroom unit at other resorts (though not all resorts have a "Dedicated" booking category) you'll have the capacity for 16 people, and three beds in each unit (1 King and 2 Queen beds in each unit). Though even then at least a couple people will end up on a sofabed.

It's also easier to book two 2-bedrooms than it is to try and snag a 3-bedroom Grand Villa.
