On the picture of the day thread I notice some people are able to get really crisp/clear pictures from dark rides. What setting should I use on my camera to take pictures on dark rides such as Spaceship Earth or Great Movie Ride? I have a twilight setting and a high ISO setting, but whenever I use these my pictures always come out really blurry. Any help would be great.

The short version is you will need a DSLR camera with a fast lens.

A run of the mill or even high end point and shot is not going to take great pictures on a moving dark ride unless you use a flash. A twilight setting typically turns your shutter speed way down. This is what produces the blur. At the very least you will need to be able to manually adjust the f-stop, shutter speed and ISO. While this is possible on some point and shoots you are typically very limited especially when in the terms of ISO. Point and shoots will take very grainy images if you turn in much past 400 where DSLR can easily go way past this setting and still take quality images.

What I would start with is your f-stop as low as possible your ISO at around 400 and your shutter speed around 1/100. Start turning your shutter speed down until you can actually get an image then start turning down ISO until the grain is acceptable. With a good bit of work in post processing you might be able to get a decent image.

High ISO, wide open F-stop and try to keep it steady at 1/25 give or take a few notches.

Remember, the higher your ISO the lower the quality.

Well, beyond 6400 ISO on a D3/D700/5DMk2/1DMk3 series camera.....
