Need More Wheelchair accessible Rides

What I love about WDW is the way they have catered to people like me who are confined to a wheelchair. I would however like to see more rides available that are wheelchair accessible. Case in point, I was able to ride Buzz Light Year because of the combination of a moving sidewalk and a special car that I could pull right up on. I think the same thing could be done with the Haunted Mansion. As I recall HM has a moving sidewalk system as well...all they need is a special car and voila! I could ride. It just kinda upsets me Disney is going more towards the thrill rides since I can't ride them. I just want a new scary adult thrill ride I could ride with my family. Closest they had was AE. I love Disney but I'm hoping they don't forget about the wheelchair bound people when building new rides!

at the RNR coaster, there is a row or two that the side pannel comes off, and wile you would still have to transfer (and i dont know if you are able to or not) you could do it by skipeing over into the seat, rather then going up and then down into it, witch im sure is very hard.

We print a guidebook for guest with disabilities, you can get it at guest relations. Its good, not great, but gives you tips for boarding certain rides. Just ask the CM at the entrance to any ride show or attraction, as each ride is a little different. We have some rides PRE-Aw/DA, and some post, so things can get kinda confusing.

I know that 3 out of 4 fronteirland attractions can be rather difficult for you, but we will try our best.


is a wheelchair car possible on a rollor coaster type ride???? interesting.....if it is, then Disney will be the ones to do it.

Hi FLCastmember, thank's for letting me know about RNR. Sadly I still wouldn't be able to ride because of no upper body strength but for those that can transfer this is a great thing! I'd also like to thank Disney for the rides they have converted like the Jungle Boat ride. The whole lift thing on the boat was wonderful! I agree that oneday Disney will be able to think of a safe way for wheelchairs to ride on these rollercoasters it'll just be a matter of time Boy, do I miss Disney

I visited WDW in the summer last year. I was in a wheelchair because of a recent leg surgery and chemo (i was really weak). They were quite accomidating and I could ride almost everything I was up to trying.
The thing I hate most is the people who look at you with the expression, "why is he in a wheelchair? there is nothing wrong wiht him. probably just doing it to get to the front of the line"
People out there in wheelchairs will know what I mean.

Oh I understand, or they look at me like "well she's in a wheelchair and that gives her the right to get ahead of the line?" Some people just don't understand. I hope you're doing better now!

Nothing makes me sicker then those people out there that actully do rent wheelchairs to get to front of the line. They are lower then pond scum. How do you sleep at night???

But in reality, it does save time on some rides, but on others, it gives really no advantage. Depends on the ride. But I have no problem with giving a break to someone who hasnt got a whole lot of them in there lives. Im sure they would trade this priveldge to just walk. We should be grateful we can stand in line.

First of all, i want to say sorry about your disabillity. I think you are right about that. They should make a a car that you can ride in at the haunted mansion just like you did at buzz light year. I think disney is doing there best they can to help everybody out so it makes disney special for everybody.

I totally agree with FL, but I do have a problem with rides being removed because they were not wheelchair accessible. If I remember correctly from this board, the Skyway was removed for that reason. That's not cool to punish some for their ability, just as much as for another's disability. Now none of us can ride Skyway.

Hey everyone! :wave:

Not being handicapped accessible may be part of it, but there were other reasons for closing it. One of them was for safety. One CM died as a result of the skyway, and I'm pretty sure there were other injuries to both guests and CM.

Hi Stepharoni, I also don't think any rides should be removed for not being wheechair accessible. I just would like the rides that have the possibility of being modified a bit to be changed if possible to accomodate the disabled who have trouble leaving their wheelchairs. I'm as sorry as you are that the Skyway was removed. I'm cool with the fact that not all the rides are accessible and I do understand there are limitations to what I can and can't do. I love Disney for what they have done with rides and I will stop complaining...Thank you Disney for what you have given to the disabled which is the ability to enjoy a lotta rides that the able bodied person can!

I was suprised to hear that Haunted Mansion does not have a car for wheel chairs! IT SHOULD! I hope they add this soon...
