Need help- sports medicine and shoulder injuries!

For the past several years I've had chronic shoulder dislocation. It's not that I have anything against doctors, but I've always just popped my shoulder back into place and gotten over it.

Today my shoulder dislocated again. By the end of the day it was nearly unbearable. And, for the first time, I can't get it to pop back.

I've been convinced to see a doctor. So should I go into first aid at work tomorrow? Or is it ok to wait for Monday after class? Finally, what should I do to prevent worse problems?

I would recommend that you see an Orthopedic doctor, possibly one who specializes in sports medicine. Between the exercises that the doctor recommended and strength training that my daughter is currently doing, her shoulder hardly ever give her any problems anymore.

I think you need to get some surgery. My doctor was almost ready to send me in for surgery after my 2nd dislocation, so it definitely sounds like something you should consider at this point.

Yeah, I wouldn't mess around with this... there are too many arteries and nerves that could get damamged with all that activity in there!! Definitely see an orthopedic specialist, as soon as possible!!

I saw a doctor today. My shoulder is now back in place and I have some meds and some good shoulder exercises to help. I was put on light duty at work, though it didn't change much as far as my responsibilities, besides it ends Thursday and I only work weekends. I go back Friday to get checked out.

As of now I'm feeling a little sore, but otherwise pretty good!

I know there is a surgery to help correct that problem, a friend of mine had it done about 5 years ago and it corrected his condition.

I am a physical therapist and I have seen patients in the past that have shoulder instabilities. You definitely need to do some good shoulder exercises and strengthen your shoulder blade muscles also. I hope you feel better soon, take some anti-inflammatory medication and make sure you keep moving your shoulder- don't let it stiffen up. And hopefully you don't have this happen again, but if so, get it reduced back into place ASAP!
