need help picking a resort

My family and I are going to Disney in the fall of 2004. I have read about so many people talking about calling with codes for discounts. Should you call everyday or once a week? How soon should I make the reservations? What is the best way to get the cheapest rate possible? Please help. I think we are looking at AKL, wilderness(stayed there once and lover it) or CS. Any input will help and thank you.

Ok, let me see if I can answer a few of your questions. Here goes... first, go check out www.mousesavers.com. This is where you will find some good discount codes. If you don't see what you are looking for, ask Pam (Kingdom Konsultants) on the boards. She usually has all the codes that are available. Also, you can do several things to get better deals. If you are going for a long stay, you could possibly have one person in your group buy an annual pass. I know they are expensive, but they do offer the best deals to AP holders. They also have additional AP discounts with codes...sometimes more than one running simultaneously. You just have to watch and ask (usually the CM will help when they can). We have stayed at almost every resort on property. The AKL and WL are both great and very similar. They both have that outdoorsy feeling. I loved the WL until I stayed at the AKL, maybe because I felt like I was at the WL, but also had the animals. The food, all the food places, at AKL are wonderful. They offer a resort tour at AKL also, you can ask at guest services. If you are willing to pay for conceirge, the AKL is great. The food was always plentify, great assortment and they didn't miss a moment to offer something different. The staff was very friendly and helpful...and if staying conceirge at AKL you have the rare opportunity to do the Sunrise Safari...only AKL conceirge guests get this perk. We had a great view and loved the room, staff, food, view...everything about this resort. I have also stayed at Coronado Springs a few times. I enjoyed the resort and thought it was very nice, but I tend to lean towards PO/Riverside more...just my opinion. It depends on how much you want to spend for a room, whether you do moderate or deluxe. I know that our rate was 139.00 for a Savannah Room view for November with an annual pass special....we ended up not being able to go, but the rate was unbelieveable. You just have to catch it at the right time...so keep looking. Good luck and hope this helps.

Meega, nala kwishta!
Mitzer covered it pretty well.

Stick to mousesavers and watch for codes, or go the Anual Pass way. Both are good solutions to the cost.

Since your stay is still a long way off, you will not be finding anthing for your stay yet. The codes should be available about 3 months or so before you go.

What we did on our trip was that I booked the room (at requalar cost) for the time of our trip. That way we knew we'd get a room. Then when the codes came out, I called back and re-booked the room under the new code.

You can usally do this right to you trip time or within a few weeks. In our case, we had to pay in full within 14 days of our trip, sometime that's longer or shorter depending upon the code or if you're using the passes, or who you are booking through. We just called Disney directly.

On a recommended resort, I'm 100% with Mitzer here, AKL all the way. I'd personally never do anything other than a deluxe, we just like all the extras that a deluxe gives us. And AKL, for us, we just love more than the others.

Hmm, good question. I don't have an answer for that. We always buy the length of stay passes that are tied to the room as part of a package. It's just eaiser for us.

Hi Steve,

I can help you here. When you go to Disney, go to Guest services. They will take the 2 day ticket and upgrade you to a new ticket. (like a 4 day hopper) You will just have to pay the difference.

I have a question about this. I've never done it but my understanding is that when you do this they credit you for the amount that you paid for the days you have leftover. So for example if you paid $30 a day for your leftover days and currently days cost $40 on the type of ticket you want, it might be better to hold on to the days you have and just buy a ticket for the additional days you need. Of course it all depends on how many days total you want and what your ticket options are. Point being that it always pays to do the math with Disney tickets since there are so many different ticket options and you have to match it up with your particular needs for a trip. Does this make sense to you, Pam?

:veryconfu  Yes, you seem to have the jist of it. You can use the leftover ticket days to upgrade to whatever ticket option that you want and then you just pay the difference. It depends on how long your stay will be and yes, by all means do the math.

Thanks, Pam, I guess I made too long of question of it.
Let me put it another way. I was talking about the situation where you would get more value out of the old tickets by using them (a day's admission rather that a credit that is less than a days admission) if you've had the old tickets awhile and prices have increased signifigantly.
It's just been my experience that with the way Disney prices tickets it's important to check out all your options. Sometimes it can save money.

That's kind of a difficult question. It's likely the ticket prices will go up a little between now and your trip, so you might save a little by buying them now. On the other hand the money you spend on the tickets now will just be sitting there idle in the tickets while it could be earning you something elswhere, though admittedly with interest rates being what they are, it won't be much!;)

yeah--last time I checked, my super-duper savings account was getting .02% interest. This is waaay better than the stock funds, however. (that would be a negative number....grrrrrrr)

I would buy them in advance, but I would wait until the end of this year. I am not sure when Disney is likely to do a price increase--you might be able to research that.

What may happen is that between now and then your plans may change somewhat. Our flight home got changed from 6 PM to 3 PM. I had tickets for that day because I thought we'd get our money's worth. You can't predict or anticipate stuff like that, but I think I would wait.

Just make sure that you do get them in advance to take advantage of the discount.

I've always purchased our park-hoppers in advance from our local Disney Store, for a variety of reasons. I like buying the tickets in advance because the prices are likely to be lower than if I wait until I'm actually there. I also like to avoid standing in line at Guest Services! The most important reason, though, is that I like to have as much of the vacation paid for in advance as I possibly can. Doing things that way just makes the whole trip more enjoyable for me. :)

Bah! Get an AP and it'll give you a reason to go back over and over ;)

Not sure how it would save you money if you got tickets before...if disney makes you upgrade anyway, you would end up paying the 2004 price for tickets regardless. Is there a certain amount of time tickets are good, cuz, I mean...if they rose their prices on Jan 1st, you bought your tickets Dec. 31, and your trip started Jan 2nd...it would seem odd to me if they made you pay more to use your two day old tickets; but I don't know...never been in that position. Disney rose their prices last spring though, so they will probably do it again this spring...(since Universal and Sea World did)...I would probably wait till after that increase, cuz I could see them making you pay more for tickets bought now that you wanted to use next year...and they may increase prices again in Spring 2004...regardless, it certainly wouldn't HURT to buy them now, but I don't know if it would save you any money--they may make you pay whatever they are charging then anyway.
