Like 98.9% of the planet, I saw and loved the new Avengers movie. I stopped by the bookstore the other day to look at some comic books, more out of curiousity than anything. I read the first book in the "Civil War" series and absolutely loved it so I think I might want to get into comic books. I was told that Avengers: Disassembled is a good place to start for someone who doesn't feel like going back to the 50's to read 382,947,987,128 different comics. Is this a good place to start? Any other advice? I was told that reading from Avengers: Disassembled to Siege would take up a good amount of my time.

Disassembled doesn't get you back very far. You're missing 40-odd years of backstory at that point.
You have to realize that the roster of members is somewhat fluid over time and will be reconfigured as needed based on capabilities and threat. It depends on how much you're willing to miss by not starting out much earlier.
Personally, I'd say starting back at the first Kree-Skrull war would be a good place but you have a lot of catching up to do. What will be more confusing is that not all the action occurs within the Avenger's arcs but have an impact on that segment of the universe. Like the House of M weirdness or the individual heroe's own arcs that are upstream of the team's activities.
Regardless of where you start, enjoy!
