While on the bus to MK a few minutes ago, a little " Princess" got on board and the bus driver announced to the whole bus "to be on our best behavior, we had royalty on board. In my 8 years of coming I've never seen this. It brighten an already excited little girls day. This is what makes Disney " Disney".

On the little speed boats at DTD one time we both got drenched by a passing larger boat. It was an accident and just unlucky, the wave created by the larger boat hit us side on just as we dipped after bobbing over a front coming wave. It resulted in the water rushing in and soaking us from the waist downwards. It felt a little uncomfortable sitting there sopping wet but we decided it was just one of those things.

When we returned to the docking area we were asked how we enjoyed our trip. Mrs Merg said "Well it was fun till we got soaked by a big boat" and laughed about it. Anyhow as we returned to pay, the lady who had helped us out of the boat came with us and mentioned to the person at the 'office' what had happened. After we'd paid we got told we could return anytime we wanted for a free half hour rental which was completely unexpected and given a slip to use to do this.

We went with a couple one year with a number of kids. We swapped out babysitting duties so that we could each have a parents' night out. When it was our turn, we were getting on the boat at Downtown Disney, and the youngest girl walked into the metal wheelchair ramp (it was stowed on the railing at the time). She wasn't hurt, wasn't crying, or anything like that, but it had surprised her and scraped her ear. The CMs there jumped on it and one came *running as fast as possible* with a first aid kit. There were probably four CMs on the spot within 10 seconds. I understand there's the liability thing, blah, blah, blah, but each and every one of them showed genuine concern for her well being (regardless of their motivations) and gave each of the kids these little tchotchkes (I forget what it actually was), but it really made their night. :)

:) I love hearing stories like that! and I agree, it is what makes disney, disney! I love that the staff sometimes have fun with their jobs and make people smile or laugh in the process! On my last trip, I was there with a friend who is not a morning person (I made her do park openings every day because I'm horribly mean that way :)) and who insisted on having 1 healthy food item in her day, so she started every morning with an apple. One morning, I believe entering the magic kingdom, but I'm not sure, the security guy who checks your bags found her apple and threatened to confiscate it because you're not allowed healthy foods in the parks, or something to that effect anyway. It was clearly a joke and gave me a VERY good laugh, but she took him seriously, which made it even funnier! I still tease her to this day because he was having a bit of fun at her expense and she fell for it!

I also have a great bus driver story. It was when I was a kid on my first trip and we had just had a long day at one of the parks and were leaving at closing. Naturally the bus was beyond full and lets be honest, there's nothing pleasant about THOSE bus rides... but our driver was epic! He was on the PA the entire time, pretending the bus was an aircraft and saying things like our seat cushions are flotation devices in the event of a water landing, however, if you're standing, I hope you know how to swim. He had us in stitches the entire way back to the hotel and it's one of the things about my first trip I will never forget. :)

We have had that EXACT announcement made for our girls on a Disney bus...twice :). The first was 2012, the girls were dressed up for an 8am appointment at BBB...the 2nd, 2013-we were headed to MNSSHP and DD7 was dressed as Snow White. My actual fave was in 2012 ... end of the night ... this awesome bus driver spent the ride giving us lots of fun Disney facts, but also noticed my younger one's bday button...and then asked the entire bus to sing her happy birthday. So much magic!

I think we've had that guy! No kidding. He did all kinds of Disney trivia, and I believe a couple was celebrating an anniversary, so he had the entire bus say "Congratulations!" It was very cool.

Maybe! He was an older gentleman, slim build, white hair, balding...on that night was running the BC/YC route from MK. I've honestly never seen so many smiles on a bus ride at the end of a long day.

While the bus "recognitions" are a nice Disney touch, they are pre-recorded :( Last month we had the princess greeting, an anniversary congrats and a birthday all on the same ride. We also had the princess and birthday greetings on different buses and the voice/spiel was exactly the same.

True, but not all bus drivers utilize them. We've gone for entire trips without hearing a single one of these recordings.

Thank you, Mr Braver! This is the thread I needed to read after reading all the doom and gloom threads about how Disney is a sham of it's earlier self, blah, blah, blah. After so many negative threads I was getting disheartened about mu upcoming trip. Thank you All for helping me to realize there is still so much magic going on in WDW!!! I needed that boost!

It's a massive organization but what does it always come down to? People. One or two CMs going out of their way to brighten your day. We don't keep going back for those attractions I've ridden over and over again .. Ok, I lie, that's part of it! But it's for the interaction, all of those little things that make you smile. They are the heart and soul of the Disney experience IMO.

So true!!! When I think about some of our most magical moments, they're often the result of a CM who made the moment more special.

I always love walking down Main Street USA when it opens in the morning. So many CMs line the street and wave to you with Mickey hands. They are all smiling and welcoming you like an old friend. It is just the perfect way to start your day in the Magic Kingdom. I am always excited, but this just makes you feel so welcome and you know your going to have so much fun!

2012 pics and then some 096.jpg This is the best bus driver we have ever had. Never used prerecorded messages, talked on the PA system the entire ride. Told jokes and asked a lot of Disney trivia. Told him after the ride what a great job he had done and found out that he spent part of his childhood in the same town in Arkansas that we are from(its a small world after all). I wish that they were all as good as this guy. I believe his name was Steve( if I remember correctly. He said if we enjoyed the ride his name was Steve if we didn't then his name was Mike).

The flower girl at our wedding got sick all over her dress and her dad's clothes. While her mom was cleaning her up, Michelle, our wedding planner, had one of her assistants take FG's dad to the closest apparel shop to the Living Seas to get some replacement clothes. He picked a cheap tshirt and some mesh shorts and the first kids outfit he could find. The assistant said something along the lines of 'that's no way to dress for a wedding reception' and told him he could get something "nicer" if he wanted.

I know comping a polo shirt, khaki shorts, a little mermaid kids shirt and shorts is a drop in the bucket for them, but still was an extremely nice gesture.
