I was watching national treasure directors commentary and they said the film sequence in the catticombs (sp) was filmed on Universal's backlot. That really supprised me. Anyone know anything about that?
Sorry, I am never one to pass on a bad punch line.
Anyway, a studio ranch is an outdoor set constructed to resemble an old west frontier town. The front of the buildings are not facades, but are complete structures, allowing the buildings to also be used for filming interior shoots for "realism" (on a limited basis).
The official name of it is called Disney's Golden Oak Ranch. It's located in Newhall, Ca. The farm scene from Pearl Harbor was filmed there. Here is a link to it. http://studioservices.go.com/goldenoakranch/index.html
Interestingly (as it is a ride at Universal) a scene from Back to the Future was also filmed on the ranch when Michael J. Fox crashes the Delorean into the barn.
