I'm sure this has been answered else where but not been able to find it yet.

We are staying in Disney Animal kingdom Lodge with family who are part of the vacation club in October. We have purchased our park tickets through a different website (as had a discount code) and not direct through disney so do we still get magic+ bands?
So you receive them before our trip or on arrival at hol tell?

Ok first, the tickets that u have, are they real plastic RFID cards or did u get a voucher from this ticket website? This will play majorly into your FP plans...

All you need to do is create a profile on the MDE part of the disney world website. You will need to ask your friend for the reservation number and plug that in. Once you do that, you should be able to create your bands.

Now onto the tickets. If u have the plastic RFID cards, you will be good to go. Just go to the MDE page and link tickets. Once you link the tickets, once you hit the 60 day mark of your vacation u will be able to pick FP+ picks in advance of leaving home!

If you do not have the cards (I know a lot of discount places will sometimes give you a voucher that u have to take to a customer service window to "redeem" your actual ticket. ) If that's the case, you won't b able to pick FP+ until you get the RFID cards. You will be able to do that for the remainder of your vacation but not until u get that RFID card in ur hand and link it to the MDE profile.

One clarification on steve's explanation on tying the resort reservation to your MDE profile...

Since the OP is apparently staying with the friends who are DVC owners, the reservation would be in the friends' name. Ideally that reservation would be tied to the friend's MDE profile as the "lead guest", and then the OP's family being listed as guests on that reservation.

So what really should happen is that the OP and their friend should get their families set up on MDE with profiles for everyone, make everyone friends/family with everyone else, and then link the reservation. Once they're linked, the Bands customization would fall to the OP's friend (the lead guest who "owns" the reservation), and would ship to the friend.

But since the OP would have their own MDE profile, once their park ticket is linked they can make their own FP+ reservations without needing to go through their friend.

The bottom line with the new MDE is that things tend to go much easier when you take a couple minutes and get profiles set up *before* you start making reservations and linking hotel and tickets. And if you're travelling with other people, add them as friends and family before linking hotel/tickets.
