My TIW Card / Can someone else pay?

Here's my situation. I head to the World tomorrow :) through May 18. After corresponding on FB with a fraternity brother who lives in the Orlando area and his finding out I would be in WDW, he said he wanted to pay for a meal to celebrate my recent birthday.

This Saturday, he, his wife, their baby, another fraternity brother, and me have a lunch ADR at Raglan Rd. The least I can do is use my TIW card to get the discount when he pays. How can we make that happen?

If there's an issue with the TIW card being presented with somebody else's credit card, then he either pays cash for the meal, or he gives you the cash and you pay on your credit card

Technically, the person who has the TIW card is supposed to pay. That being said, I've handed my TIW card to a friend when we were having drinks at Rose & Crown & the bartenders let him use my TIW card & pay with his credit card. No problem. Same friend a few months later got a TIW card. We were taking turns buying rounds & my husband had wandered off with my card, so I took my friend's card in and paid with my credit card.

We've done similar things in other lounges on property and never had a problem. Of course, being the bar fly that I am, I know most of the bartenders in those other lounges and are friendly with them.

I think it depends on the server you get.

I've gotten around this a few ways: one is give them the TIW card before they bring the check. The waiter rarely pays attention to the name on the TIW card. When you get the bill wait till the waiter leaves to put the card in. I've never had them notice the diff in names. I've also given them the TIW card before I've gotten the bill and been able to spilt the check. I've always told the people I'm with to have cash, just in case, but I think it probably depends on your waiter & how much of a stick in the mud they want to be.

I didn't get scrutinized with the TIW card at all last week. Actually, 3 servers informed me that the "only-the-cardholder-can-pay" rule had recently been lifted. I have no clue if that's 100% true but they told me this without my ever asking. I didn't test it anywhere because I was using my own card to pay, anyway.

I'd be prepared with cash, but I'm thinking you might not have a problem no matter who pays.

@Blairnicol has the answer that has worked for me. Give them TiW when you sit down or before the check comes. Then the check will come with the 20% already taken off, and anybody can put down the credit card to pay. There is almost no chance the waitperson would notice a difference, even if he or she would care if they noticed a difference.
