My thoughts on Cinespec

I was recently watch Cinespec on You Tube. I have seen the thing in person once, and since it's right before Mardi Gras, I'll be seeing it a second time in person. I think the show is good, not great, but good. However, there are some BIG things that need to be changed. Let's get the show here, and follow along:

Prologue (0:00-3:10)- Excellent. Having Morgan Freeman narrating this is great, and we get to see some of the best films from Universal. We have Frankenstein, Jurassic Park, Apollo 13, Back to the Future, E.T., and Jaws, then a quick reel.

Intro (3:10-4:45)- Great. We have the films previously mentioned, along with others like Scarface, Blues Brothers, The Breakfast Club, and Born on the Fourth of July. I do question the inclusion of The Grinch and the Mummy reboot seeing how they aren't the greatest films Universal has.

Heroes (4:48-7:03)- Excellent. Having the BTTF theme as the background music works great. I will say that I am surprised, and correct me if I'm wrong, that this is the only clip from Inglorious Basterds in the show. That was a great recent film by Universal and why it isn't represented more in this show if beyond me. One of the worst aspects of the show is the use of Battleship, and it shows here and in the battle segment. This section is missing some heroes like Oskar Schindler and Clarice Starling, but other than that it's great.

Horror (7:06-9:20)- This is the best part of the show for me tieing with the ending. Sure, you have the staples, the Classic Monsters, Psycho, Silence of the Lambs, but you also have others like The Thing and Cape Fear. I don't see one bad thing here except for a nitpick, and that's after showing the villians, you jump right into Child's Play. Really? Of all the films you start out this segment with, you chose Child's Play?

Comedy (9:20-11:26)- For me, this is the weakest part of the show. Surprisingly, as bg of a film buff I am, I can't name that many films shown here. We have Despicable Me, The Big Lebowski, Babe, 40 Year Old Virgin, Bridesmaids, Hop (we'll get to you in a second), The Lorax, and plenty of ones I don't know. One of my biggest problems with this segment is the inclusion of Hop. Whoever decided to put Hop in this show needs a slap in the face, because that film does not deserve to be in this show. Yes, we do have some bad films featured in the show, but Hop is going too far. This needs an improvement fast, with getting rid of forgettable and bad films and adding more recognizable ones.

Good vs Evil (11:28-13:30)- This section is just ok. The Gladiator intro is good, then we get more recognizable fights (minus Inglorious Basterds >:( ). The part that es me off the most is the ending. Of all the films to send off this section, you choose, yet again, Battleship. You had a really good chance to make this section great, but then you do this....

Triumph (13:35-15:35)- This segment is pretty good. There are some good fil....., wait, The Pianist? Where has this film been in this show? It just shows up right here (correct me if it showed up earlier)? That's a bit surprising. Well anyways, it's a good section, but regarding the romance stuff at the end, why didn't they just make a Love section of the show? There's certainly enough films to warrant it's own section, so why not?

Ending (15:35-18:19)- Like I said before, this is my favorite section tied with Horror. Everything about this section is wonderful. Perfection.

If I was putting this on a 1-10 scale, it'd probably get a 7. Lack of films like Inglorious Basterds, choosing recent films that weren't that good, and two bad sections of the show make it that low. Other than that, I think the show is great for what it is. I do think it needs an update pretty soon because the 100th anniversary is over and Battleship was a box office bomb. What are your thoughts on Cinespec?
