My Super Duper Top Secret Surprise Birthday Pre-Trip Report

Hi everyone! Welcome to my top secret surprise birthday pre-trip report! I have planned a surprise birthday trip to the world for my hubby’s 42nd birthday. I am so horrible at keeping secrets especially of this kind so I need your help to keep me on track and not let me blow it! He doesn’t read the boards, so hopefully he won’t start now!

Here is a pick of me and my husband from the marathon this past January. Me-Kristi 39 Hubby-Dan 41

Now the backround behind the surprise trip! We have no kids but are huge kids at heart and love anything Disney. He had never been to Disney World until our honeymoon back in 1995. It was there that I created a monster. He is now a bigger Disney nut than I. I never thought that could be possible. He texts me all day long, everyday about how he would like to be this place or that place at Disney right now. For our next planned trip, we decide to do a Disney cruise for something a little more relaxing than the guns blazing, army commando Disney touring that we usually do. When at the parks, he is a bit more relaxed, where as I need to be on the go and get the most for our limited vacation time. I think that does drive him a little crazy sometimes! Anyway, we decide to take the cruise at the end of April. Since we made the ressie, he has made a countdown calendar and has been agonizing over how many days we have left till the trip. I think we are down to 233 today! The Disney texts have been amping up and he is dying for something to do to break up the wait till our next vacation.

This past weekend, I opened up an email from Disney and saw they were offering the free dining plan in the fall. I checked the web and saw that week could get 5 days at Pop Century for his birthday week and have the quick service dining plan for a relatively good price. I quickly started to formulate a plan.....First I had to text him and make up something about he should take his birthday week off and maybe we could go out to Hershey, PA for their Christmas lights and Christmas at Hersheypark stuff. Maybe even catch a Hershey Bears hockey game. He hemmed and hawed a bit about not knowing if he had enough time. Eventually he saw the light and took the week off. I quickly made the reservation! I also made a dinner reservation the night we get there (his birthday night) for Boma. His favorite restaurant, Le Cellier, was of course booked already since we are 90 days out. I will also add that because this is HIS trip I will try not to be as demanding and if he wants to sleep till 10 am I will let him with a smile :brick::ROFLOL: He can make the schedule:zipit:

So now the hard part! THE WAITING!!! And not leaking the surprise. I did tell him that I had a surprise planned. He thinks that we might be going out to Pittsburgh to see the Penguins or the Steelers play. I don’t think he has any idea. I am not good at keeping secrets like this and part of the fun in having a trip is talking and planning it together. Now I have to keep it all to myself! I am still trying to decide how to tell him too. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I might leave start leaving clues around the house closer to the time. Or sneak the Magical Express stuff into his lunch. We leave on Nov 28th. I will probably tell him on Thanksgiving or around then. He likes to have certain clothes with him so I can’t really pack for him but he is a guy and it won’t take him to long to throw some stuff in a suitcase. Thanks for reading! Again, I will take any suggestions to make my wait easier, help in not blowing the secret and suggestions for the surprise!

PS – This will be our first stay at Pop or any value resort for that matter. We usually stay at Carribean or Coronado but since we are going on the cruise in April and this is a kind of short trip I decided to give it a try. I have heard nothing but good things about it. We will be there from Nov 28th – Dec 2nd. Any tips on the resort would be most welcome too!

What a good wife you are, planning a surprise birthday Disney trip!! He's going to LOVE it! Especially since he talks about Disney so much, you know he won't be disappointed to find out where you're going!!

I'd NEVER be able to keep a secret like that though so kudos to you!! I'd definitely slip up and spill the beans!!!

I like the idea of slipping the Magical Express info into his lunch. It would be great to do it on a Monday so even though he had a long week of work ahead of him he would be psyched about the trip.
Hope all goes well!

Hi Kristia!
I love, love, love that you are suprising your hubby!

Can you call his boss and get him the time off without him knowing? You can really ride out the suspense until the very end!

I love the idea of dropping the ME info into his lunch bag...lol

Good Luck and keep us posted!

He already arranged the time off. He works for a large company, so he has to put in the time to HR and get it approved. They have to make sure enough people will be there. Hmmm...I may do the lunch bag thing!

Looks like the lunch bag thing is a winner so far!
