My issue with the Cars DVD

I've noticed that the bonus features on the Cars DVD tends to be a little on the lacking side when compared to other Disney DVD releases. I at least expected the Rascal Flatts video on it.

Then I noticed that Target and Wal-Mart both have different bonus DVDs for sale along with the normal DVD. Each of these bonus DVDs have different bonus material. Including the Rascal Flatts video on the Wal-Mart DVD.

Is this going to be a new trend for Disney? Produce a normal DVD with minimal bonus features, and then sell bonus DVDs at different retailers, to force you to buy the movie two or more times to get all of the bonus features? And then some where down the line they will most likely package all of this material into a "specail collectors edition, Platinum, 2 year anniversary, 2 disc DVD special":p to make you buy the movie again?

Anyone else notice this, or have info on what is going on at Buena Vista Video?

Yes.

This is a trend in the DVD world. I know many Harry Potter fans were upset when they accidentally bought the 4th movie DVD with minimal bonus features (I included). Too bad Disney has to follow suit......

This is not necessarily the case. Wal-Mart, along with other retailers have been doing this for at least a few years. Wal-Mart especially. I does anyone know what Target is offering though?

But I kind of like when a store offers an extra disc, or bonus item.

Other movie companies, besides Disney does this as well. If anyone bought X-Men: The Last Stand from Wal-Mart, that also came with a bonus disc. Although if anyone noticed, what the box says on the bonus disc has nothing to do with what is actually on the disc, but I still think it is cool to have the history of X-men.

These "Bonus Discs" are more for the retailer to get more business, rather than Disney.

Although, for the big, big movies, you might see Disney put out multiple versions of the DVDs themselves. For example, the new Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest will come in both one and two disc format. And they are coming out with a third version of the Chronicles of Narnia that has four discs.

I was surprised that Cars was not two-disc.

But I wonder just if Cars had that much to show that was worth putting on the disk. I think the animation shorts are great though. But in comparison to the other Disney/Pixar movies, there have always been two disc sets, so I don't know what's going on.

P.S. Does anyone know if there is a hidden easter egg on the Cars DVD, and how do you find it? I read in the Disney Adventures magazine that there was one, and on the cover, it said there were "bloopers" on the DVD, but I can't find any. :)

I dont know if anybody here uses iTunes but when cars was first released, they had a Cars podcast with these cool little behind the scenes videos.

Well basically those videos are whats on the Bonus disc from Target.
