My ideas to fix the Walt Disney Company

These are my ten ideas to improve the Walt Disney Company:

1. Hmmm..... you'll never guess... GET RID OF MICHEAL EISNER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! In time, he will step down and I hope its soon.

2. Keep the Feature Animation Studios open. There's no need to close it. Find new ways for more improved animation other than just CG technology. Why not some more Clay Animated Films like Nightmare Before Christmas?

3. Help out other partnered studios. Please help out Miramax and Paramount to make better and more great films. And keep the partnership with Pixar!

4. Improve the Disney Channel: I noticed that its only targeted for Teens and preschoolers. Keep the preschool shows, but add more shows that Elementary school level kids can enjoy and bring back Valt Disney! Also, add a few more brand new shows starring Disney characters like Mickey.

5. Improve DL and DCA: DL needs a better Tomorrowland and help DCA! I've always liked the idea of DCA becoming a Disney's America. It can easily be done. Fire T Irby. He's the one mostly responsible for the bad matinence around DL lately and for the BTMRR accident.

6. Bring back Tapestry of Nations parade at Epcot.

7. Keep Timekeeper and CoP open.

8. Improve Mickey's Toon Town or maybe put a brand new one in the place of the Sub Building.

9. Sell some PotC movie merchandise! Atleast sell them once the sequal comes out. Sell stuff like action figures halloween costumes, computr games, ect.

10. Disney should be partners again with George Lucas, Steven Spielburg, and many others again so better rides can be built.

Well, that's it. Tell me what you think!:)

Oh yeah, I forgot about that.

11. Either Improve ABC or sell it. ;)

Good move, sir. I would

> Have Roy and Gold and supporters help select a brand new board to find a new CEO and resestablish powers of Disney (as far as, making rules to not allow what happened with Eisner blocking Roy from meetings, age limitations, etc.)

Sure...claymation is cool. But first and foremost, BRING ADVISORS - people who worked on Beauty and the Beast and The Lion King and such. Then, BRING BACK THE FLORIDA TEAM, for goodness sake. Bring songs back to the movies and bring back the traditional quality. CG can be made, but animation must be kept and improved.

If Miramax and Dimension continue to make films "Scary Movie" and "Bad Santa" - DITCH THEM. Sell them. Anything, but Disney needs to be separated from Miramax and Dimension - AND Viewer's Choice OGRAPHY. Who ever even CONSIDERED owning these groups should be banned from the company.

I agree. Bring back wholesome family entertainment. In time, the Disney Channel will fall. It's doing great now, sure, but soon enough, in the long run, it will fail. What will NOT fail? Varied family entertainment: good wholesome shows, varied (ala Vault Disney). Fix ABC. . . perhaps try out family entertainment and less ______.

GIVE UP E! - Disney should NOT own this. Instead, have the NEW CEO try to shake hands with OTHER family companies, such as Pixar and Henson.

Sure, all of the parks can be helped in many ways. But, the philosophy is - INVEST money. Only then will the pockets be filled in the long-run.

6. Bring back Tapestry of Nations parade at Epcot.

This is on a different level. Not much to do with the others. . . I say, create a new parade. ToN is hated by the CM's. . .

7. Keep Timekeeper and CoP open.

That's cool, but I would expand this: guarantee classic attractions open and NOT pull anything out of foundation (i.e. the original Gemini plans). Ensure the public that Disney can do better - so that we can have TRUST (something I haven't had since the early 90s).

Make the workplace nicer. Improve backstage conditions. Have more restrictions on the Disney Cast, and thus, less layoffs. This will (1) promote more safety, (2) thus, saving Disney money, and, in the long run (3) keeping the turnstyles moving without fear. Like Roy said, there needs to be a brand new, fresh group of people who can come in and bring back the magic.

To see what I'm talking about, go to the WDC forums and read the "Interviews" thread. It's really depressing what's going on nowadays. :(

Unfortunately, Scary Movie and Bad Santa are box office hits. They are cheap to produce and bring in a big profit. ography (Disney owns channels? How sad) is also a big money maker.

I believe Disney should stick to what it does best. It's core should be Theme Parks, Animated movies, Family movies, and Disney brands (stores, radio, and TV). By selling off Miramax and Dimension (Paramount is owned by Viacom), ABC, ESPN, E, and all non core related companies, Disney can devote it's energies to the core.

The problem with selling off is that Disney bought these companies in the 20th century and would be selling them in the 21st century. They probably couldn't get full value (or cover their debt) by doing this.

All they do in the way of Teens programming is take shows that used to run on other networks and try to recycle them.
I say stop making shows aimed at teens altogether.
You also forgot one of the most important fixes: Stop making direct to video sequals!

1. Agree...Eisner bye-bye, see ya', it's been a hoot but you've blown your loot.

2. Agree...the talent is there to draw the cells. The real challange will be getting good stories, good directions, good storyboards, music, etc., etc.

3. Dump the other studios, and negotiate a better contract with Pixar so they can get their fair share.

4. While it would be nice to see Vault Disney come back, I don't think that is going to save the Disney Company. It may make some of us happy, but until it can draw 1/10 of the points of Friends, no exec is going to care.

5. Agree, in part. Work on DCA before DL. DCA is basically a new park gone to waste (except for a few critical rides).

6. Not a big parade person, so no comment.

7. Agree, in part. Replace Timekeeper (I know, sacrilege). If COP can't be refurbished to run year round, rebuild it with newer technology or a different mode of presentation. Upgrade the AA so that there is more than an arm slowly waving around, or a head turning from side to side.

8. I really like this one. Exand, expand, expand. Everytime I have been through Toon Town it is packed, with wild eyed, sensory overloaded young 'uns and frantic frustrated parents. Make the walkways wider, with more stroller parking, more Character greets, and more attractions. Kids will love it, parents will praise it, and the older children will be happy because the parents won't be grumpy and irritable (eighth dwarf) at the end of the day.

9. This one is tricky. Ever notice the t-shirts at PotC? There are some really cool designs. I think so. My wife thinks so. My two sons think so. But no one is willing to buy one, because then you would have to wear it. I have seen many different t-shirt designs in my travels, but I have never never never seen anyone wearing a pirate on their clothes. That's just the way it is.

10. I would like to see this, too. But egos will have to deflate some, and agreements over who-will-pay-for-what will have to be settled first.

And I completely and wholeheartedly agree with artvandelay, Disney needs to stick to what it does best, which is top quality family entertainment in their parks and films (be it animation or live).
