Took my family (2 kids age 7 and 4) to Universal on Monday November 1 and thought I'd do a quick review. Got to the park at opening and did Shrek 4
immediately. Very good show. Seems very long in comparison to other 3-D shows. Entertaining.
Then crossed the street and did Jimmy Neutron. I really enjoy this one and my son just got to 40" so he could ride the moving seats which was nice. This is a very witty presentation and an enjoyable ride. I find it to be significantly superior to Star Tours.
After that we headed back to E.T. and walked right on the ride. This is a great dark ride. (It may be the last greatslow-moving dark ride built in Orlando - its better than anything Disney has built since 1989 IMO). We did a quick walk-on ride on the Woody Woodpecker coaster to appease the kids and then headed to Men In Black. My son was not eligible to ride this because of the 44" minimum (I have to admit that the 44 inch minimum was a bit of a headshaker considering that 70 MPH Test Track has a 40 inch minimum and all you do on MIB is spin a little). Wife hated the spinning aspect but I thought this was a very good ride that was themed tremendously. Next we did Back to the Future which isn't that entertaining to me anymore. The good thing about this ride from Universal's perspective I guess is that it doesn't take up much space. Had lunch and caught the Animal Planet show which was nice.
Then went and did Jaws, which was still only a 10-15 minute wait. Scared the beejeepers out of the kids plus our butts all got wet. Skipped Earthquake because it was a 35 minute wait (longest wait time we saw in the whole park which was very curious to me). After winning some stuffed animals for the kids, some of the adults did the The Mummy Coaster (only a 15 minutes wait around 2PM. I thought it was a bit short but alot of fun and a tremendous upgrade over Kongfrontation. Did not do Twister, T2 or Earthquake. Went to the Fievel's playground and let the kids run around a bit. Did E.T. one more time and left the park after brief shopping at 3:45 PM or so.
All in all a very, very good day. I have not been to IOA because my kids can't do much there with the height requirements. However, I am generally a Disney guy but USF is far, far superior to Disney Studios at this point, IMO.
