So, the Fiancee and I are booked for CBR on Fri. 12/13 and Sat. 12/14. It will be my first time staying there in over 20 years and her first time ever. Any must do's from that particular resort? Also, how are the christmas decorations? Thanks!

There are Christmas trees placed throughout the Customs House and Old Port Royale. The ornaments are brightly-colored (like the resort) and tropical in theme (flowers, sea life, etc). There are wreaths and swags throughout these areas as well. The decorations are not as impressive as they are at other resorts, but they are pretty and appropriate for the resort.

I suggest finding a hammock on the beach to relax. Or taking a romantic, evening stroll around the lake. The buildings look pretty lit up at night. You can rent surrey bikes during the day for something more fun. Listen the steel drum music; it puts you in the Caribbean frame of mind.

I liked the CBR when we stayed there a few years ago. Hope you do too.

thanks for the tips!!! We are looking forward to a relaxing weekend as we both have mildly stressful office type jobs!

Walk hand in hand along the waterfront, watch some fireworks from the main pool, take your meal outside and relax, spend some time in a hammock, or you can rent a boat if you like. You can get in an island state of mind :)
May be a little chilly for the pool but definitely doing the rest!

One Little Spark...
If you ever want to do a dinner at the resort, I'd recommend Shutters. I've had several good meals there.

Also, and this isn't really a "must do", but when you book the room put in a request to be in Aruba or Jamaica "near the bridge" with a garden or "preferred lake" view (you'll pay more for the lake view, the gardens are fine, I think). Best place on the resort to stay, I think, for a variety of reasons.

I was thinking of maybe trying Shutters for lunch. Thanks everybody! POFQ is our favorite, but wasn't available. I am looking forward to something new (to her , new to me in the last 25 years or so)

Shutters has weird hours. As I recall, they don't do a lunch service. I think they don't open up until 5p and they close at 9p or 10p. Silly, I think, because it's really a pretty good restaurant.

The food was very good though, if you like Caribbean / Cuban style cooking. I wouldn't rank it above many of the other experiences at Disney, but for an easy night around the hotel, it's perfect.

Another thing worth trying (again, unless you have better plans)...you can see the Illuminations fireworks from the hotel pool. So, chill out in the hot tub, cool off in the pool, or just grab a drink and sit at one of the nice tables. The fireworks will happen in the northern sky.

Its Epcot EMH our first night...maybe we will have to pop back to the resort for dinner and pool view fireworks, then head back for late night SSE :) Thanks for helping with our first night plans!
