Dining at DL isn't as great as it is in WDW, unfortunately.

My favorite character restaurant is Goofy's Kitchen in the Disneyland Hotel. And my favorite restaurant, if you're willing to splurge, is Napa Rose in the Grand Californian Hotel. Excellent service and excellent food.

We also enjoyed Goofy's Kitchen...went there for breakfast. best meal we had on trip.

Carnation Cafe was nice for lunch. That is on Main Street.

Blue Bayou is WAY over hyped...we thought our meal was lousy...will never go back.

We were refused alcohol though because our STATE ISSUED Florida IDs did not have 4 physical descriptions on it... It didn't matter that were were of age and were just looking to have a wine paring with one of our lunches at California Adventure. I argured that they serve alcohol to a 40 something year old person that could be from Florida who has the exact same ID as me! Just warning you if you look young!

My favourite character breakfast is the stoytellers at the Grand Californian, the setting is wonderful and you get a lot of different characters, we had Braer fox, koda, Chip, Dale and Nico. The food at the buffet was really great and the service was very good.

Do they have a dining plan there?

Nope, no dining plan at Disneyland. There is very little at Disneyland that is like WDW, except for maybe Mickey Mouse walking around the place.

Disneyland Resort is set up and run very much like Tokyo Disney Resort and/or Disneyland Paris Resort. You need to throw out most things you've learned about Disney theme park vacations at WDW. WDW is a one-off aberration, and the other Disney theme park resorts around the world are based off of the Disneyland Resort model in Anaheim. Paris, Tokyo and Anaheim are all fairly similar to each other, and Hong Kong has been designed to get there eventually too.

You'll want to maybe check out the Disneyland-centric websites, or buy a good Disneyland guide book at Barnes & Noble to get a better handle on the Disneyland Resort style of vacation and what it offers.

I know absolutely nothing about DL other than there are two parks.

Another wise investment would be to check out the newly upgraded Disneyland.com website. Pour yourself a glass of wine, or make some tea, and settle in for an hour or so of exploration. The new official website covers everything you'd need to know.

Then, after you are familiar with the Disneyland set up, come back here and the SoCal locals can answer the nitty-gritty questions for you. :animwink:

Thanks for the advice. I'm gonna check it out and bring back q's but I'm starting to wonder if it's worth the visit and perhaps it'll be a serious let-down after falling in love with WDW. NC to Cali, not a hop, skip, and a jump for me, ya know!

Certainly Disneyland and SoCal have their charms and allure, as they are popular with tens of millions of tourists per year, with or without Disneyland thrown into the mix.

But if you are really set on a WDW style vacation, then Disneyland is likely not your scene. Similarly, you probably won't enjoy Tokyo Disney Resort or Disneyland Paris Resort. WDW is a complete one-of-a-kind setup and can't be used as a reasonable comparison to the other properties.
