Muppets

Does anybody know if this is just Muppet character rights, or does Jim Henson's Creature Shop enter into the deal? The whole of the Henson company seems such a natural fit with Disney.

Well, in short... and sorry about the bluntness.... Jim Henson died. The company kinda sorta went downhill from there. Christmas Carol and Treasure Island were pretty good, but Muppets in Space was a desperate last gasp. Now they have been resorted to denny's commercials.

The Muppet franchise was worth (i think) double what it is now back before henson died. (dont quote me on that...i could be very mistaken).

Disney has been eyeing the rights to them for over 5 years now, and it seems that they may finally be acting on it. I feel this would be a SMART move since 90% of the world already thinks the muppets are Disney anyway ;)

The best part is..Disney is getting them CHEAPER than what they were originally sold for to the german company...so i guess this is one time where it was good to wait.

Haven't heard anything else about the sale, but I definitely think it's coming soon. Brian Henson resigned as chairman of the company on May 31st, and in the article below it's said that the company handling the sale will gather a new set of bids in "two weeks" which would have been last week.

What do ya'll think about Brian Henson resigning? Do you think it will affect the quality/creativity, etc. of the Muppets?

I doubt it. As chairman he was dealing with much of the financial and business aspects. The creativity is handled further down the ladder (unless of course we're talking about Disney, where Eisner has to have a hand in EVERYTHING!) -- he'll actually still be doing a lot of that.
