What is your review of Mulan 2?

Do you find the story consistant with the original?

How is the film without Eddie Murphy?

My opinion is simple - I refuse to watch or buy cheapquels. Walt proved that sequels didn't fly. But the current regime saw an opportunity to make $$$, so here we are. I withhold my money for quality products from Disney, and sequels are anything but.

I'm sure I'll get dinged for that, but I don't care.

Well, I read some decent reviews so I decided to rent it.
I will sum my experience in two words: Total crap!

This time I've learned my lesson, no more cheapquel viewing for me! :hammer:

I think Lion King 1.5 / 3 (depending on where you live) has been the only decent straight to video film. Looks like it will stay that way.

Ok, here is my review from a mother of a almost 4 year old Disney Princess.

She loved it. She liked it better then the 1st Mulan because it was more girly, and more about "girl power". The songs were good, animation was as good at 1st run moive. It was cute, delt with relationships, not just falling in love with someones looks or the idea of someone. Delt with compramise and following directions. I don't like that Mulan lied in it, DD talked about that. :hammer:

There is this seen where Mulan is swinging a pole and all the other little girls in the town want to be like here. I could see the stick swinging going on at my house and I was formulating my speech "No stick swinging in the house, or with in 10 feet of anyone else.................. :lookaroun " It hasn't become a problem yet.

DD really likes the song "I want to be like other girls" I didn't notice Eddie wasn't in it, it was a good match.

If you have a kid that likes Mulan, they will like Mulan II also and it worth getting. (especailly since I got it for $15). I don't mind sequals since kids really like the movies and it gives them an opprotunity to continue to see the charaters they love but a different movie.

I take that as an insult to one of my favorite movies. Animation was definitely not up-to-par. Better than other DTVs? Lightyears ahead. . . Better than the first? No way... :)

Never said it was better, my DD liked the plot line better, but that is a 4 year old girl thing.

The animation was good, it stuck to the same style and feel of Mulan and the cutlure and on small screen it was as good. Not like some sequals. It was not second rate animation. I found no flaws in it. It wasn't relased to theatures. For a straight to DVD release it is great. I think it rather like Jungle book II and Peter Pan II, a good movie.

Also it is a whole story in itself, not one of these 3 short stories (like Cinderalla 2)

I'm guessing hand-to-hand combat and disgusting soldiers just ain't her thing! :p

Yes I guess that is it. Mulan II has a few instense moments, but is less scary then I. She is waching Mulan II for the 5th time right now. We certainly are getting our moneys worth out of it.

In true Disney sequl form it is good for the kids, not as much for adults. But as an adult I didn't think it was bad and did find it enjoyable. As a parent of daughter I found the polt line of marriage, comprimise, partnership and being true to your heart refreshing. Good role model stuff for young girls. Kind of the princess with a inner power type of thing.

I watched it last night and I LOVED it...couldnt even tell Eddie Murphy was gone, and I will definately be buying it soon. Mulan has been one of my Favs, and this stays true to form.I am sure our Niece will love it, she is 5, and thats who these movies are made for!

Question! Am I the only one that noticed that Mulan has suddenly become in-touch with her inner girl? She doesn't feel like a warrior any more.

Walt proved that sequels didn't fly

Technically, Walt didn't prove anything. he just said he didn't like sequels since "you can't top pigs with pigs". He did not proved that sequels didn't fly, heck If Walt had done a sequel it probably would have been great (think Toy Story 2 great) but he didn't, he just doesn't like sequels so he never made one.

Walt did do sequels, which is where his quote about 'you can't top pigs with pigs' came from. If it weren't so darn late, and I wasn't so tired, I'd dig up the info. Maybe someone else could help out?

That annoyed me to no end. I wanted feisty warrior girl Mulan. I blame the "Disney Princesses" brand. The current administration at Disney is obsessed with shoehorning all Disney heroines into one mold. Part of the appeal of the original was that Mulan was so different from any other Disney heroine, and I think the sequel lost that.
