Well at least Mr. Toad still resides in Disneyland. I don't get there often, but when I do, I drop in on Toad Hall for a visit.

I certainly do. It was popular down here and it's still popular out west in DL. I don't see why they couldn't have found another spot to put Pooh, and just left Mr. Toad in peace!
One simple reason...money. Toad was not pulling in guests and was taking up a prime piece of property, hence the change.

I believe that the traffic would have improved for the ride. Disney just need to wait a little longer for the generation that started enjoying it when they were kids, to bring their kids. I was able to ride Mr. Toads only once with my young children (They loved it by the way). It could be a cyclical thing. OK, it might be a stretch, but I need to grasp to something.

As jedimaster pointed out Pooh is a much more marketable character. Grab 50 people off the street and ask them who Mr Toad is. Ask the same 50 people who Winnie the Pooh is. You will have your answer to why Mr Toad gave up the deed to Mr Owl and now currently resides in the pet cemetery outside of HM.

I am forced to agree. Pooh was far to cuddly. Not to mention he has a great group of friends. All of which are probably more marketable than Mr. Toad. That being said, from a personal perspective Mr. Toad was very dear to me and will always hold a fond place in my memories.

Pooh was a far more marketable (and more familiar) character for Disney. Money dictated the decision. I believe there is a small tribute poem on Toad's statue in the Haunted Mansion cemetary confirming this.

Except that it cost Disney a chunk of change to keep the rights to A.A. Milne's stories of Pooh. They were in a large court battle with the family for a few years.

More marketable, yes. Not sure money dictated the whole decision process.
