I have been exploring options of working at UCF this upcoming academic year. Of course, on my list is the AP Florida Resident discount pass :) However, I am in a dead end situation finding a place to live. I understand that Alafaya is the main road that runs along UCF and that is where all of the student housing is located as well as it being a high traffic area. I want to live in Orlando (preferably within 15 to 20 miles of UCF), one bedroom with the rent being no more than $900/month (750 - 850 ideal). Those on campus have suggested Alamonte, Winter Springs, Oviedo - but I really would like to live in Orlando. Any and all suggests would be great. If you have a lead - please fell free to send a private message as well. Mods if you need to move this - no problem :) Thanks everyone.

Look into the Dean Road area tons of homes and apartments. Check the Woodlands its about a 15 minute drive. Also the area around Union Park is the closest area with affordable rent to UCF. Very nice place to live give or take that you live on the right part of East Orlando. Its a 30-35 minute drive from the attractions give or take the traffic and a very easy drive to the Greenway which connects to I-4 and ends in Celebration. Around a 15-25 minute drive to MCO from there as well. Hope this helps. If you want I know countless other places nearby.

Are looking to be close to downtown Orlando? You're probably looking at a rather obnoxious commute on surface streets to class every day. If you just really want to just be inside the city limits you might get lucky and find a closet sized studio apartment in Baldwin Park.

No, I am trying to avoid downtown orlando. Everything I look at is "luxurious" then I look at scathing ratings online. I really want a simple one bedroom apartment. I will look into Baldwin Park.

Thank you for the information. Are there any "regular apartments" in Orlando? A lot of what I am coming across is resort style apartments that look like hotels (and everything is termed luxurious) with high expensive price tags. I am looking for a one bedroom apartment with a washer/dryer in the unit - everything else is not needed. I will look into Woodlands and Union Park. Help... :)

Online services typical require the complex to sign up and participate so there is a bit of an over emphasis on newer and larger complexes. General city names can also be problematic based on however they are being filtered, meaning that a search for 'Orlando' might be originating around Downtown and then going out from there. A zip code map may be useful because you can look at more specific areas. Google Street View can also be useful since you can go down major roads and look for complexes that may not be listed on apartment hunting websites.

The campus is also just not that close to Orlando proper. It's about 15 minutes without traffic to do the straight shot from UCF to Full Sail in Winter Park near the edge of Orlando.

A lot of young people live north of universal. Near kirkman, Conroy, metro west and such. Pretty close to the 408 which is a nearly straight shot to Ucf. Not the best area in town but not the worst either.

Yes of course you will find plenty of non luxurious apartments in Orlando. You can find those a dime a dozen. Just stay away from the theme parks everything will be either tres chic or really poor and tons of crime. Spend time searching around and make a circle of about a 15 minute drive around the UCF area. Go Knights!
