Movie Scores and Songs

I always liked Disney Movies' music. I remember that when The Little Mermaid came out the songs where awesome, people loved them and won an Academy Award, the same with Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin and The Lion King. But gradually Disney songs lost some enchantment. Maybe because Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz weren't involved in the last movies, but I think some of the newest Disney movies lack of a theme song or tune, in this I include Dinosaur, Atlantis, Monsters Inc, Tarzan, Emperor's etc. I think the last movie with sticky songs was Mulan which had some wonderful tunes like "Be a Man" which remind me of the older movies.
I think Disney needs to come back to the thematic songs and melodies, since then they become a trade-mark in Disney's history and also help the memory of the movie, meaning many people uses the Beauty and The Beast track for a WALTZ dance and that helps people to remember how fine was the movie. Music is very important in a movie, without it, films would be cold and senseless.
Just a thought.

Well..I agree...for the most part. I think it all depends on the movie...

For example..it would have totally killed atlantis is someone all of a sudden broke out in song...it was too much of an "artsy" film for that...but it would have been great in the Emperors new groove.

I agree, I love B and B because there is always music. Disney needs to go back to the "old" kind of movies, not all the stuff they are making now. like lilo and stich, come on! It's a blue alien thing, what happened to the princesses and their princes? They were much better back then.

I thought Tarzan was an amazing idea by rather than put some people off by having, for example a load of cutlery burst into song, they weaved in music that fitted the movie and vastly improved it but didn't have the characters sing it (mostly). This is much more realistic and Disney is always having the Mickey taken out of it for the musical dance routine style numbers. The Tarzan idea is definatley the way to go.

I can say it's not nice, but Phil Collins doesn't go with Disney, and so much of Phil Collins...worse, I don't want a Soundtracks with 99% of Phil Collins and 1% of Nsync, for that I'd buy a Collins CD and end of the story.
The same with Emperor's new groove, STING. He is so different to the funny movie that it doesn't make much sense at all.
I liked Princesses stories, and also liked funny stories like Hercules and Mulan, but I am getting bore with too much Pixar...
