Having seen Narnia and seeing the previews for both Glory Road and Pirates of the Carribean II (Not to mention movies in the past couple of Years which have included Pirates of the Carribean I and Miracle) it seems as though Disney's live action movies are definantly doing well. Would you say that Disney live action films have reached a new high point?

It seems to me that the high point of Disney live-action movies is matching up with the low point of Disney animated movies (but that is just my opinion).

Um, Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy.....

I would not say that they are definately doing well. I would say that may be trending that way, but they need more than one smash like Narnia and POTC every three months or so before I would say they are doing well.

Disney really needs a good animated movie to provide more fodder for the theme parks. Stitch is getting, not let me rephrase that, has gotten old...

I liked Hitchhiker's! But it's okay, I'm probably the only one...I guess I'm just way into that strange, silly randomness that leaves people confused. I think a lot of people were expecting an adventure--a space epic perhaps? The previews made it seem as such. But that's just not what the book was about.

But yes, Narnia seems amazing (the book was, I can't wait to get to see the film!) And the trailer for Dead Man's Chest left me breathless with anticipation!

As long as there are no more Herbies or Lizzie Maguire movies, then I guess I'm set. :D

Yes, but there is a snow ball's chance in Hell that we'll get a good one.

They should do a movie based on the story of EE.

What? After seeing Kong last night, I'd say it can be done and maybe better (maybe)....

I would agree that Disney has found some good fuel for the present and near future. Now that they have a little momentum they need to start working n some other ideas to bring along after these movies start fading!

As I mentioned in another thread - I thought the Dead Man's Chest looked awesome as well!!

Sadly, a Disney movie that was excellent but didn't do so well was "The Greatest Game Ever Played". I have to agree, one hit film here and there does not make a successful film company. Didn't the sequel to "The Princess Diaries" also tank. I know that wasn't this year but my point is I think if you weigh the movies out I think the failures might rule out. But someone please tell me I'm wrong.

Disney definitly needs more hits, and I think it all starts with the writing.

I am not so sure about that...

I really think it depends on the time of year it will come out.

Summer films can be brainless, poorly written, and still make a ton of money. Special effects and big stars or directors seem to rule the summer.

Fall/winter films seem to need a good story, and cheap films that are well written can do well. At the same time, the big budget special effects orgies that rule in the summer typically do not fare well in the fall and winter, unless they also have a good story.

Overall, writing is important, but more important depending on when the movie will be released.

I think Touchstone needs to get back to producing movies like Ruthless People, Down and Out in Beverly Hills, Outrageous Fortune, Can't Buy Me Love, Stakeout, Three Men and a Baby, Good Morning Vietnam, Cocktail, Beaches, and Pretty Woman. These movies were not expensive, made a reasonable amount of money, and they were not "Disney". Not everything Disney does has to be "Disney". It seems when the Weinsteins wanted to start making larger-budget films, Touchstone lost its edge. Miramax needs to get back to the art-house films, and Touchstone to the "non-Disney" films. The problem right now is that Disney has a few production brands, but they are all overlapping eachother.
