Disney Eyes 2005 as a Golden Year
A Message from Walt Disney Parks and Resorts President Jay Rasulo
As we say good-bye to a year marked by many successes for Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, I’d like to thank all our friends in Central Florida for the support that has enabled Walt Disney World Resort to achieve such a strong performance in 2004.
I assure you the best is yet to come.
During Saturday's Tournament of Roses Parade, an
innovative, new 60-second commercial, "Coming Home," (click here to see an image from the commercial) gave millions of people across the country their first glimpse of
the unprecedented global celebration that will mark the 50th anniversary of Disneyland and launch the next 50 years of Disney vacations.
The spot kicked off the most extensive marketing and sales campaign in our segment's history. Coupled with Mickey Mouse's role as Grand Marshal of the parade, the commercial was a truly wonderful way to begin the countdown to our worldwide Happiest Celebration on Earth. When the 18-month extravaganza officially begins May 5, 2005, every Disney destination around the world, along with Disney Cruise Line, will join in the festivities with new attractions and shows. Here in Florida, Walt Disney World Resort will debut exciting new attractions imported from Disney parks worldwide, such as the breath-taking Soarin' from Disney's California Adventure and the Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show from Disneyland Resort Paris.
Then, Hong Kong Disneyland will open on September 12, 2005, becoming an important gateway for bringing the magic of Disney to families across Asia. It is just the beginning of the excitement to come, as new regions of the world open up and present a myriad of growth opportunities in the family vacation destination business.
As we look toward the next 50 years, it will be more important than ever for us to capitalize on emerging trends and desires. Walt Disney World Resort is paving the way for us with the announcement of two new cutting-edge programs that provide extraordinary customization, flexibility and value for today’s families. The Magic Your Way ticket plan will allow guests to tailor their vacation and save more money per day based on the length of their stay, while the new "Magical Express" will offer complimentary airport shuttle, luggage delivery and airline check in for Disney hotel guests. The future of family vacationing is clearly alive and well in our parks and resorts.
"We are extremely excited to add Disney's Magical Express to the extensive list of ways we make Disney guests' vacations easier and more enjoyable," said Al Weiss, president of Walt Disney World Resort. "In essence, this benefit provides a hassle-free experience for our guests from the airport to our hotel room door and back again."
When Walt created Disneyland, he tapped into a vast market based on a changing environment – and launched 50 years of vacation magic. Looking forward, the opportunities for our growth are just as strong and, with the continued support of our neighbors in Central Florida, I believe the next 50 years will be even better.
Salute!
