Motorized scooters?

Unfortunately, a member of my family has an injury that is going to require her to use one of those motorized scooters during our trip to WDW next month. I've never had to deal with those before, so I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction as to how to get one? Can you get one right from the hotel (we will be staying at the Beach Club)? Do you have to call ahead to reserve one? Also, what is the fee for renting one?

Thanks so much for any insight you can provide. I really appreciate it.

I think it's called Buena Vista Scooters that has a kiosk in front (or in back) of the boardwalk-by Village Green. Disney has 5 "preferred vendors", those are the ones who can leave the scooter at bell services so it's there when you arrive, the other scooter companies have to meet you. The WDW website names those 5 companies. In addition (and this I'd like to know for sure), I've heard that if you break down inside the park, only those 5 preferred vendors can come into the park to help. I rented from the Disney parks last trip (didn't know my need until I was there) and for that price, I can rent for twice as long from an outside vendor and have the scooter full time. I think it's about $150 for 3 days renting at the parks, but from an outside vendor, it's less than $150 for 5 days. But it's a good idea to reserve from an outside vendor at least a few weeks in advance. Apple and Buena Vista Scooters are 2 of the preferred vendors, Walker is not (but is very good, I hear). Like I said, check the WDW website for the full list of the 5.

We rented a scooter for my husband from Buena Vista Scooters on our last trip in 2013 and everything went very smoothly for us. Our scooter was waiting at Bell Services when we checked in at the Wilderness Lodge and we dropped it off there after we checked out. We did upgrade and add the extra basket to make things easier (I didn't have to carry everything:)) and the canopy since the Florida sun is so strong and he is on meds that make him more susceptible to sunburn. We didn't have any issues during our trip so we never had to call so I can't speak for that. Make sure to charge it each night and you shouldn't have any battery issues. We ran ours from park open to close and it still ran like brand new. You may want to bring something to cover it in case of a rain storm. I remember reading somewhere that someone used a large grill cover and it worked really well.

My Mom uses Walker Mobility. They have you fill out a form, then they send you an email to contact them for a pick-up time. Walker Mobility will meet you at your hotel, and they will explain to you how it works. It's for your entire length of stay. They pick up the scooter on the day you check-out. You must meet with them personally, however. We had no problems. It was 170$ for 7 days.

The preferred vendors are easier and less time consuming. They can leave the scooter at the bell desk for you and you also turn it in to the bell desk, the best thing though is if you have an issue in the park the preffered vendors can come to you wherever you are you don't have to get a dead scooter up to the front of the park. My Dad had an issue with his once and the literally were there in less than 20 minutes and apologized for not getting there sooner, we were over by Peter Pan and he got held up by the dance party,. The approved ones I know of are Buena Vista, Apple, Scooter Bug I can't remember the other two, but we have used both Buena Vista and Apple and were very pleased. Apple does tend to be a little cheaper.

We used Walker for our clients for years and never had an issue. We have since started using Buena Vista due to Disney's preferred vendor policy and have had no issues. I do know of numerous instances with my agents personal experiences with Apple that make them not so desirable to use. Needless to say, we will not be using them for our clients.

We used Buena Vista Scooters in February and had a great experience. Our first day the battery wasn't working right and they replaced the entire scooter that day. They can come into the parks if you have an issue. Great customer service!
