Most Common Screen Resolution?

I'm wondering what screen resolution most people are using these days...800 x 600 or 1024 x 768.

I'm building a web site in conjunction with my soon to be eBay store and I want it to be easily viewed. I've been in 800 x 600 for ages but I noticed when I built my web site to those dimensions and viewed it from someones PC who was set at 1024 x 728 it looked terrible.

So just let me know what you guys are set at. And if anyone has any info (an article or anything) on which is more commonly used now, I'd appreciate a link!

The most common size the visits disneypix.com according to the logs is 800x600.

Yeah, design for 800x600.

There seem to be two patterns of thought over design:
1) Design for 800x600, but make it stretch for higher resolutions (ie: http://www.inquisitivemonkey.co.uk/grizz-o-meter/ )
2) Design for 800x600, but leave whitespace to the right of the frame (ie: http://www.inquisitivemonkey.co.uk/cblog/ )

Pick whatever you think is best. IMO, #2 is the easiest to do, but #1 yields the best results.

if you think that is difficult, I am a web designer and one of my clients has his screen set to 640x480, making at least 60% of websites look terrible. That also means that everything we do for him also needs to at least look ok in that dimension as well, which is difficult, given the small amount of information that will fit in that small a screen.

I think I'm going to continue designing for 1024x728. Nothing important will be going off the screen in 800x600 mostly because I'm super limited by geocities. The only thing I have to complain about in 800x600 now is that everything is a tad too large for my taste. In 1024x728 Im very happy though lol.
