Hi all,

we're just about to head off on our big 'grand gathering' at DW! A last-minute question came up from my dw who has never gone before - and I've not been there in 20 years, so I don't remember this one - what's the mosquito population like there? Are they swarming in the evening, or does Disney somehow keep them from coming onto the resort grounds?:p Thanks for your help on this one?

We have been to WDW in almost every season & have never been bothered by mosquitos. Disney has a very good program in place to keep them under control. I've seen the trucks out in the evening spraying.

It doesn't hurt to bring a small can of OFF spray or the like, but we have never had to use ours. (and its expensive to buy there).

Have fun!

I'm a mosquito magnet. And I don't recall any mosquito bites while in the World. One thing I do put on whenever I'm going to be outside for a while though is Burt's Bees Herbal Insect Repellent. No DEET or anything like that in it. I'm scared of that stuff.
In fact, here's the ingredient list:
Lemongrass Oil
Citronella Oil
Rosemary Oil
Grape Seed Oil
Vitamin E
Smells like lemon. I forgot to put it on Labor Day when we spent the day in our yard playing on the swingset, etc, and I ended up with chiggers all over. The kids didn't have a single bite!

FYI, we do enjoy seeing all the frogs on the walls near the lights at our room at night. I've found them most prevalent at Caribbean Beach...Maybe they "take care" of the mosquitos.

They do litteraly fog the entire place each night. We lived in Fl for 6mo a few years ago and were shocked at the number of bugs outside of WDW (moths the size a tennis balls, 1/2in long ants covered in red velvet, and beetles the size of Ringo.) If you have only been to WDW you would think that bugs were nonexistant.

I would bring a can of Off though, because if you are going to be sitting outside at night for any length of time you will get a couple of bites (possibly eaten up if you get one of those agressive bugs on you.)

Have fun, takes lots of pics!

the mosquitoes that you see in the water parks like in the wave pool at typhoon lagoon can still sting you even though they are dead. my sister sprays on an avon product its called skin so soft and she has never been bit by anything and she gets a great tan from it.

I'm very prone to being bitten, but I've only had a couple of bites before. I don't ever remember having them around though. I wouldn't worry about it! Have a great trip!

Disney does a great job with insect control. In over 15 years of WDW trips I don't recall a single bite, either on me or any other family member! It wouldn't hurt to take some Off or Skin-so-Soft to be precautionary, but I don't think you'll have a problem. Have a great trip! :)

Didn't see any mosquitos, but I did get bitten by sand fleas on the Poly beach, not to mention that a giant cockroach ran up my leg while I was watching Hallowishes. I almost died it was so gross!
