For those who asked to be kept updated, I am happy to display some more progress shots for this model. I am close to the point where I can mount the boom structure onto the boom support/trailer assembly. When you look at the 'backbone' of the boom support structure, you notice the technic frame inside that allows the support to stay together when allot of weight is placed on the front side of it. I had to use non-Lego bearings due to the fact that the finished boom will be very heavy, and if I had just used Lego at this friction point, it most certainly would not last very long, or many rotations to be sure! I added my own custom precision bearings that have the same inside diameter of a round Lego 2x2 brick. This is the diameter of the shaft that will support the boom. On the backside of this shaft I am attaching a variable speed drill, and this will drive the boom. For those interested...enjoy!
