More Airline Charges

Saw in today's paper the US Air is now going to start charging for blankets & pillows. For $7.00, you can buy a "Power Nap Sack" which includes a blanket, pillow, eye shades & earplugs in a drawstring bag embroidered with the US Air logo.

My question is, how much do these kits cost to make if the airline can make a profit @ $7.00 a piece? :shrug:I've never seen anybody actually take the pillow from a plane when they leave; what happens to them? Do they get thrown out?

I'm flying to Vegas next month on a 5-hour flight - guess I'll just ball up my jacket and sleep on that if I get that tired.

Maybe it's one of those inflatable pillows. In that case, you can use it as a flotation device.

As for taking the free pillows off the plane, at the airline I work for, we throw passengers taking things off the plane into the Tower of London. It may be a bit harsh, but it is effective!

It may be that the airline isn't making any profit on selling them at $7; but many of these items they need anyway and were traditionally given free. It's better to take $7 from a passenger than to give them the items for free as they were doing in the past. The only difference is the embroidery, which can't be too expensive.

... You mean, like ... in a hotel?

I think the original post meant that they get reused for an entire day before being replaced, not like a hotel replacing a pillowcase or sheet before being used again.

I've seen pillows (clearly used) still sitting in seat pockets on airlines and plenty of dirty blankets in the overhead bins.
