Monster's Inc. Franchise Expansions in Disney Parks?

Do YOU think that an (additional) Monster's Inc. attraction could be added to WDW in the future?

I know that this is a hot topic for everyone in the Disney forums all over the net, but I felt the need to share my thoughts and hear yours. As you are well aware of, Monster's University, the 'prequel' to Monster's Inc. is coming out this summer. Since the re-igniting of popularity with the Monster's Inc. franchise, I believe that it's the high time when Disney will release plans to build a new show, ride, or other experience attraction at WDW, and other Disney Parks, in general. What are your ideas for what could happen? I know there is a long-rumored 'door coaster' that has been in the forums for ages since the first film, but does anyone else have an idea of what could be in line for building in WDW?

There are already two different Dark Rides for Monsters Inc. at Disney theme parks; one in Anaheim and one in Tokyo. Both of these darks rides are generally well received. And the new rumor from Al Lutz is that a Monsters Inc. coaster thrill ride is slated for Anaheim in a few years.

But just cloning one of the existing Monsters Inc. dark rides from Anaheim or Tokyo would be a good place to start for WDW.

The Tokyo one is too close to Toy Story Mania to be built in DHS.

Outside of ride vehicle and the basic premise of "tagging" everything they are dis-similar enough to warrant building it...problem is how long till the AA's break and effects get shut off though

I would love to see them build monstropolous more then cars land. Then they could give us 3 attractions to fit all age levels with dining and shopping options. This is not going to happen, but I can dream
I have to say that I agree with you 100%. If they are going to focus on a single Pixar film, why not Monster's Inc? I agree that it would be awesome. I just don't like the idea that wdw would copy cars land. That should be exclusive to DCA, and a monstropolis would be exclusive to WDW. It would ultimately bring more people from the west coast to Orlando in order to attend a different park, not a copy of theirs in Anaheim! I can picture monstropolis now... Wow!

I like Monsters Inc enough so that if they want to make another attraction based on it, please let it be a ride and not something like a 3D show or something like the Laugh Floor now. Actually, something similar in style to the Simpsons ride at Universal could work. Some kind of coaster based on the door chase from the first film would be awesome.

Exactly.....I would love them to do the door coaster and build it into power plant. Could you imagine how cool they could make the pre show/ queue experience with the AA's and other effects walking through the power plant until you get to the actual ride. Then they could move the laugh floor over from tomorrowland. Add another attraction or two, add a copy of the university. Make it unique and fun. Put in Harryhausens as a table service and then maybe add in a counter service somewhere as well. I will take cars land, but I would just rather them do this because then you have two unique pixar experiences then on both coasts.

I would love to see the coaster in DHS, but I was thinking about this to appease the disney needs to be more family rides then thrill ride audience. If money was no object (I know we are talking about TDO), build the coaster and build a dark family style ride. I don't want it to be a complete clone of DCA, so I was thinking how can we change that. I was thinking build a ride that puts the guests in the ride as Boo's point of view. Maybe make the ride vehicle designed around the monster costume she wore in the movie (the mouth area would be the seats). You go through her closet door and then into the power station of monstropolis. From thre it is a wild but funny (not scary) chase through the station and out into the city, you are chased by randall, mike and sully, and the CDA for the different reasons why each wants to catch you. You visit the streets, sullys apt, harryhausens before you go back to the power station where you say your byes to sully and the ride ends as you head back through the door. Bring the trackless technology to orlando with this ride, and this ride with the coaster at worst you have one e ticket and one d ticket ride and best two e tickets......that can really help with the lines at the few rides that are in DHS. Monstropolis would truely have tons of potential

Exactly as I picture!! I already want that first row seat on the door coaster! I also agree with moving the laugh floor. It would make more sense to be there. Only thing I worry about is the conflicting time periods, since the recreation of the factory in Tokyo is designed to fit with the laugh factory, and the laugh floor fits in with that. Meanwhile, the proposed factory in WDW would have to be the scare version, since the MU film focuses more on the pre-laugh factory version. I think that maybe the scaring and laughing would clash somewhat if they were both in sections of the same building. Other than that, I have often thought here recently that a story for the queue and the ride could EASILY be concocted to create a truly Disney attraction. Not to mention, this monstropolis theme could be the ticket to putting DHS back onto people's must see lists.

Could it be? Sure.

I would love a coaster where your feet hang down! It could be the door ride!

But it seems that Disney doesn't like to build really good rides...like if little kids can't ride it, they don't want it.

Love this idea. This would appease kids at DHS. Disney is trying to build a huge fan base with the Monster's movies right now, in order to attract more new kids, and I think this would put more kids into DHS.It needs something to bring the family crowds from the universal parks and into Disney. Universal has more tame attractions for kids, while there are several wilder rides in DHS.

I think they could add a Monsters Inc inspired attraction if everything goes right. I don't think they'd put in a roller coaster, but maybe something similar to the ride over at DCA.

Monsters inc. indoor coaster was supposed to be going next to Toy Story Midway Mania however that has apparently been being planned for 6-7 months but there has been some activity going on recently in that building so it could be still in the works.
