Just caught some word that gang from Monsters Inc. may be the next inhabitants of the new (re-revised) Imagination Pavilion at Epcot. Anyone else heard anything?

Although I'd like to see it something new and original (with just Figmant and Dreamfinder), I am pretty sure you will end up seeing a monsters Inc type theme...however...I don't exactly know how a "scare machine" would tie in with Imagination.

There was rumor of this about a year ago when the first teaser preview of Monsters Inc. was shown. It seems kind of unlikely to me, though. Disney doesn't seem to jump quite this quickly and the timing would appear to be off (starting work on the new ride the same month that the movie opens) unless they are planning to have it go along with the video/DVD release which is a possibly, I guess... There are plenty of ways they could connect it to the imagination pavilion with imagination being a new source of power. I don't think figment would fit into this equation, though. They established him as a sort of magical creature borne from peoples imaginations and the monsters in Monsters Inc. aren't really all that magical. As a matter of fact, in the world that Pixar presents them in they seem to pretty much be every day guys that drive cars and go to restaurants for dinner.

I'll bet Monsters, Inc. will appear somewhere at disney in the coming months, but it would make more sense at MGM or if they wanted to change our Haunted Mansion for a while, there...

People were afraid when they thought that they were going to change our haunted mansion with a seasonal Nightmare Before Christmas Theme. How do you think they would react to the outside being painted a nice teal and the inside being gutted and brightly lit?.. If we see it in a few months, it will probably be crap. It takes them almost a year just to put a Dumbo-style ride in. Think about it :)

Sry if someone already said this coz I didn't read through everyones post, but I wouldn't be surprised if they did do that. Theres another post saying Monsters, Inc would be really big and stuff like that...if Disney did do this it wouldn't be much of a surprise to some people

I am fairly certain that, in another thread, someone actually confirmed that the ride would not be based on Monsters, Inc. Rather it would be the current ride, plus Figment, minus the train room and the 'color of sound' tunnel. If I recall correctly, this information was from a cast member who read it on the WDW Intranet. If thats true, then the rumor is also likely to be true. Of course, I may be wrong.

As far as we know, just the ride. It would be nice if they redid Imageworks but I wouldn't hold my breath on that one with the rumored $5 million being spent.

According to this article from the Orlando Weekly, it will not be based on Monsters, Inc.(What exactly would Monsters Inc have to do with the Imagination Institute?) But rather, it will revolve around the idea that the Imagination has captured a living "Figment" of the imagination, but he has escaped, and you have to catch him. BTW, its being done by Tony Baxter, one of the Imagineers who designed the original Journey Into Imagination. ;)

The Article:
Those who prefer their dragons non-smoking should know that Future World favorite -- Figment -- definitely will make a comeback. Tired of the endless complaints from Epcot guests about how Disney ruined the original "Journey into Imagination" ride during its 1999 redo, the Imagineers finally are doing something about it. Their first smart move was to assign veteran Imagineer Tony Baxter to undo the damage. Baxter helped create the original version of the Kodak Pavilion ride, and this month he will be honored with a lifetime achievement award from the Themed Entertainment Association in recognition of all the rides, shows and attractions he's dreamed up for Disney over the years. Though Baxter's crew hasn't officially finalized plans, the proposed name for the redo of the redo -- "Figment's Journey into Imagination" -- leaves no doubt about who will be front and center again once the revamped pavilion reopens in the fall of 2003. It's said that Epcot visitors now be will invited into WDW's Imagination Institute to view a most amazing discovery. It seems the Institute has managed to capture a really for-real figment of imagination. But just as guests enter, Figment breaks loose. Their mission is to help recapture the little purple dragon.

So Figment is definately coming back, but so is that Nigel guy from Honey,ISTA...

that says "Fall 2003"...hoping that's a typo, or they better be gutting out the whole ride and starting from scratch! Is Kodak putting a cent into this, or are they like "hey...we didn't screw this up 2 years ago...YOU fix it!"?

They aren't changing all that much, they are just going to tie figment into the ride more. And who came up with that Monsters inc rumor? Monsters inc star Sully and Mike currently have a float in the 100 yom parade at MGM and a meet and greet, but that's it and it's at MGM. The last i've heard from the Epcot people is that the more figment version of the ride is slated to open in late Quarter 4...
